    Sea creature fossils (part 3)

These look like mollusks that are missing half of the shell exposing the creature itself. 2 different specimens. I found them on the Nueces River in Southwest Texas

    New member from NJ

Hi everyone!! We recently moved near Big Brook Preserve in NJ and have been spending a lot of time there. I have a 9 and a 7 year old who are very keen on finding fossils now. I feel so lucky to have such a wonderful resource so close. I look forward to participating in the forum and hoping you can help us ID some of our mysterious finds beyond the usual suspects.

    Identification help needed pls

Can anyone identify any of these bones found by my 7 year old at Wapping pls? We went to look for the gallows at the Prospect of Whitby pub and literally stumbled upon these. She’s very excited to find out what they belonged to and has taken some to school today! We are thinking cow or horse due to sheer size and weight. Thank you ..

    My trilobite collection.

Hey everyone, I've been acquiring some new fossils, and it's been getting me to want to start a trilobite collection. I wanted to make this so I can update whenever I get a new specimen. For now I'll start with my Kainops raymondi. Paciphacops campbelli
  5. Last in I was doing a search on my phone for upcoming Fossil / Rock Shows and I discovered that there was one being help today and tomorrow in Freeport, Illinois. Though it would be a 215 mile / 3 hour & 20 minute round trip, I decided to go. Well, my wife decided for me. I advised her that I was going to pass on the show and she replied- “I don’t want to hear you later in the day complaining that you should have went”, so I did. I was very happy that I went, there were a lot of people and many vendors in the venue that was held at the Eagles Club. Here are some pictures inside the venue. They had a person doing wire tying with minerals, someone cracking open geodes and another person I believe doing some cabbing? They also had door prizes and the club was selling rocks, geodes, fossils , etc. Net post I will show the items that I got from this show.

    What kind of Dinosaur Eggs??

While prospecting for gold in Placerville, California on Weber Creek in a deep hole I found two eggs a dino bone fragment, which I sold to a local store and a seed grinding tool. The store owner also sold dino poop that he found in the area. Once I presented the eggs to him he pulls out a spray bottle of water lightly misted the eggs and said they were tacky. He said thats a sign of calcium. He still didnt know what species they were. The eggs easily fit in my hand. Is there anyone who can help with the possible I'd of these eggs? Thank you for your time.
  7. As someone who almost never goes on trips (not by choice) it's hard to make paleontology a major part of my life. In fact I joined TFF in an attempt to make paleontology for me more then just learning new things without interacting with people. But the fact I don't go on a lot of trips also means I do not have a lot of fossils so for a long time I was thinking about buying fossils. The problem is I don't know anything about fossil sales so I would love to get information about where can I buy fossils, what are good prices an that kind of stuff but honestly I just want to hear anything I should know or anything you want to tell me about fossil sales.
  8. So I was out for a walk the other day, i found myself wondering across the shore of a big reservoir that is maybe about 20ft shallower than normal. I ended up finding a thin fossiliferous layer exposed, no sign of fossils above or below this particular layer, which as far as I could tell was just a few inches thick. Question is, how could I get a date? I have spent ages looking at geological pdf's found on Google, can't find anything about a layer of marine fossils this far inland. I am in South East Wales. Thanks, Mark
  9. A couple weeks ago I ran into a former collecting friend at the ESCONI Show. I had not seen him in about 20 years and we talked about the old days and my fossil mentor Walter Lietz, who we both collected with. In the course of the conversation he mentioned that he had a collection for sale, not his own, but another family member. I advised him that after I got back from MAPS, that I would like to see it. Today I drove the 30 minutes to his house and took a cursory look at the totes of fossils. After looking at the stuff, we came to a price and I brought the fossils home. It contains all different kinds of things and I will have to go through it to see exactly what is in there. Here is a pic of my car with the totes and bags of fossils. Here are some of the fossils - Eurypterid - collected on an ESCONI trip to Linton, Indiana in 1988. Same type of fossils found in the Mazon Creek area. Rhabdoderma Coelacanth- found in 1985 at Pit 11. Looks like it has stomach contents or coprolite. A nice Annularia. Tully Monster parts ( tails, some with the neck and transverse bar). Some tar beetles from California. I will continue to post more as the day and weeks go by.
  10. The collector who I buy my Chinese pterosaur fossils from gave me some info about Psitaccosaurus fossils since I inquired about one he had. I thought I will share it here in case anybody is considering thinking about buying one. He isn't a commercial seller--a collector who sells fossils he finds and on behalf of fossil collectors, who I hope it doesn't break the rules of discussing sellers to post what he informed me. Think it's useful for people to know "The Psittacosaurus fossil. Please always remember that you get what you pay for. Most Psittacosaurus are chucked together. It is impossible to get a complete one now. So, worker would keep all pieces and when they can make up a complete body, they will do it easily. We can't judge it just from the pictures." So, it seems that they are all composited over a period of time, to such an extent that it is very difficult to tell the difference. He also sent two photos which I have also attached showing composited Psitaccosaurus which, to my eye look very well done.

    Show us your tyrannosaur fossils!

Show us your tyrannosaur fossils! My only tyrannosaur fossil is a small fragment of a tooth, but it has some really cool patterns. I can't post pictures right now but will later. So show us your fossils!
  12. Help with finding out the value how old it is the blue stuff on the petrified Wood is spray paint it was given to me like that.
  13. Hi all! We found these on 10/23/21 at Big Brook in Colts Neck, NJ. I appreciate your help figuring out what they are. Thanks!
  14. Today I stopped by the DuPage County Fairgrounds in Wheaton, Illinois to attend the ESCONI Fall Mineral and Fossil Show. This was a limited show and did not have vendors like in the past, but it was still a great show for all who attended. The had things for kids as well as silent and live auction items, they were also selling all kinds of fossil and mineral related books, as well as all of @fiddlehead Jack Witry’s books on Mazon Creek Fauna and Flora and the was a Green River prep going on. A good time was had by all and it was great to see the excitement on younger kids when they won the silent and live auctions. It was really funny watching the bidding on a silent auction Mazon Creek piece. One adult who had been buying up a lot of items wanted this piece and the kid (9 years old) kept increasing his bid all the the way the final second and he got it for $50.00. I never had $50.00 at 9 years old. I picked up a couple items and will post them later, one piece was from Brazil and it was a beautiful pale colored calcite that glows pink under black light. I won it in a live auction for $45.00 and I got it for my wife. I told her that I had to get something as beautiful as she is, I need brownie points when I am at fossil shows. There was a ton of Fossil Forum members at the show and it was great to see them. I will let Rich @stats tag others, I forget all of the avatar names. Here are a few pics-
  15. Today, my wife and I attended the first day of the 2021 MAPS Show at the Orr Building at the Illinois State Fair Grounds. The last two days, we stayed at the Northfield Inn and attended the hotel portion of the show. You can check out my thread on that part and see all of the echinoids that I picked up. Today was a much better day for me and I picked up some great pieces at unbelievable prices on some items. I will first show a few pics of the venue and some of the fossils, etc., and I will end with the stuff that I picked up. This venue is so much better that the place that they use to hold it in Iowa City, Iowa. The Orr building was warm and had outstanding lighting. They had some displays for attendees to look at. There was a small concession stand for people to get food. There were live talks that people could attend to learn about fossils, etc. There was a small kids corner where kids could get fossils. General views- CONTINUED ON NEXT POST
  16. I have thought about buying this sawfish rostrum from the Cretaceous Kem Kem Beds in Morocco. Is it real? Does it have any restoration?
  17. I am at the Hotel Show portion of the 2021 MAPS Fossil Show. There are a number of vendors in the hotel rooms and there are a lot of fossils to be bought, hopefully tomorrow I will see more of them before the show starts on Friday at the Orr Building on the State Fairgrounds property. Today was an echinoid type of day for me. My wife and I arrived at about 5:30 pm and I only spent a little time checking things out before we went to dinner. Here are few pieces that I picked up today, some do not have an id, but some of them came together and the price was right. If you know an id or see something that I may have wrong, please let me know.
  18. Found this while sifting through gravel in Green Mill Run a while back, genuinely throwing me for a loop. I thought eroded horn coral at first, but the hollow portion at the bottom makes me think its a tooth of some sort. Mosasaur, crocodilian? I really have no idea. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    First Summerville Trip!

Last weekend a friend and I took our first trip down to Summerville, SC on our own without a guide. I think we did pretty good for our first time scouting and hunting on our own. We can't wait to get back down there!
  21. I found this down near the Genesee river here in NY today. It's strange compared to the other fossils (if this is one) I've found out there--instead of a handful of specimens, it seems to be riddled with mostly 2 or 3 different types of small, pistachio-sized sea shells. The outside of the rock is pockmarked where (presumably) shells had made impressions but had fallen out before fossilization. This rock has this sparkling luster in a couple small spots, mostly on the large fossil shell fragment (?) I'm seeing, and a few of these curious grape-like formations. The biggest these white grape like clusters is going down into a shallow earthworm sized cavity into the rock. So yeah, I don't even know how I would describe this rock, other than I think it has fossils, and I think it's chert. I also wish I could give you a really nice shot of one of the individual shells, but many of them as you can see are like 2/3 within the rock so it's hard for me to get a handle on their shape. I'm also not super knowledgeable on Fossilized sea shells unfortunately. help?
