Composite Onchopristis barb?
Psittacosaur9 posted a topic in Is It Real? How to Recognize Fossil Fabrications
Hello everyone! I'm going to start posting fossils individually, to gain more traction on the forum. I'll post a few fossils I am worried are fake or composite today, then repost any fossils I have yet to receive identification for with higher-quality images in about a week. Here is an Onchopristis I purchased from a museum. After inspection and contrast with other barbs other collectors own, I have come to the conclusion that the barb is likely composite. In the images below, I have highlighted what I believe to be the original fossil in red. Do other people on the forum support this conclusion? Also, why does it seem to have a blood groove? Thanks for the help, and hope you have a good day. -
Edmontosaurus tooth? (and question about replica Tarbosaurus claw)
I bought this Edmontosaurus tooth fossil from a somewhat unreliable website online. Is it real? If any of you need more high quality photographs, please tell me. Also, as I don't know where else to post this, I purchased this Tarbosaurus claw replica a while ago. Do any of you know which digit it comes from? Thank you and hope you have a good day! -
Zarafasaura oceanis (=Plesiosaurus mauritanicus) vertebra?
Psittacosaur9 posted a topic in Is It Real? How to Recognize Fossil Fabrications
Hello everyone! Final thread for today. I'm going to start posting fossils individually, to gain more traction on the forum. I'll post a few fossils I am worried are fake or composite today, then repost any fossils I have yet to receive identification for with higher-quality images in about a week. Anyways, I purchased this Zarafasaura oceanis verterbra, which was labelled as 'Plesiosaurus mauritanicus', from a museum reasonably cheaply. It looks and feels real to me, but I feel a bit paranoid and would like a second opinion. Do others on the forum think that the verterbra is real? Thanks for all the help!- 2 replies

Theropod tooth - Kem Kem
Jurassicz1 posted a topic in Is It Real? How to Recognize Fossil Fabrications
I got this nice theropod tooth awhile ago. And got a few questions. Is it restored? I don't think so but want be sure. And the label that came with it was "bahariya Formation - Kem Kem Beds, Taouz, Morocco". But bahariya Formation is from Egypt? So was the label just wrong and its just from the Kem Kem? I found these crocodile teeth from Khouribga, Morocco, Phosphate Beds. But not any info about the age. The Khouribga phosphates is Upper Cretaceous-Eocene. Anyone that knows the possible age? There are some crocodile teeth & a jaw. Are they also real without any restoration? I thought about buying them. Or should I pass?
