Need help identifying this jawbone I found in the banks of St. John’s River, FL near mill cove
FossilFisherman posted a topic in Fossil ID
Hi this is my first ever post so apologies for the atrocity that is my attempt at using tags lol, I found this guy on the banks of the St. John’s River FL by mill cove, i know its a jawbone, but to what i have no idea, could be mammal or marine, because there are lots of Osprey Bald Eagles and other birds of prey in the area. Any help is much appreciated! I also think it’s some sort of predator due to the shape of the teeth.- 8 replies

These two items were found sifting for shark teeth on a beach near Venice Florida. Ruler is in inches, sorry. The larger I believe is a tooth from a herbivore. I'm new and not sure how to differentiate, or if it may be from something else. The smaller one looked like a piece of crab pincher to me, but has a row of round hollows that correspond to the thickness of the piece as it tapers. (Tooth sockets?) The break at the larger end appears to be hollow/filled with sediment.? The tip appears broken off and hollow as well. There are ridges along the length, and it is slightly curved.(I tried to get it all in the pics) Is this likely a fish or small reptile? Any help or suggestions are appreciated.
