Question about quality / real of Keichousaurus
crabfossilsteve posted a topic in Is It Real? How to Recognize Fossil Fabrications
What do you guys think of this specimen? I looks better than most Keichosaurus specimens I've seen. I looks like it could be prepped more to expose more of the ribs etc. I'm debating on buying it and would like your feedback. Thanks- 3 replies

I've never seriously done paleoart before. I have been wanting to try my hand at it for years but passed on it for one reason or another. Recently I fell in love with looking at fossils of keichousaurus. I also love lizards. So I decided yesterday to just do it. So here are my results. If I messed up on the anatomy in any way, please don't hesitate to let me know.

Dear members: I wish I could say that I found this myself but I actually purchased it from an estate sale. There was no identification paperwork that came along with it but my own research online leads me to believe that it may be a Keichousaurus. I’ve examined the matrix carefully with magnification and I see enough continuation of strata from the surface down the sides and I even scraped away some matrix next to ribs to determine that this was not a fake or reproduction. So any help in confirming the identification would be appreciated. It seems to me that this is a pretty nice specimen and probably from China but I do wonder if it’s fairly common or if it is an example of a special specimen. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated and I hope the photographs are adequate.

New keichousaurus. Painted or not?
TeethCollector posted a topic in Is It Real? How to Recognize Fossil Fabrications
This one is a new Keichousaurus that I bought and I know there are a lot of overly restored or painted fossils. I see a repair line going through the body and I think at least some part of the fossil is real.. but anyone can figure out which part is painted or not? And does anyone know what those round impressions are? Is this a impression of a shoes or something?- 18 replies

Please help me to finish work - keichousaurus preparation
anhlatuan posted a topic in Fossil Preparation
Hello friends. i am from Vietnam. People in my country dont know much about fossils, and we have no forums to ask about fossils. So, can you help me to finish my preparation? ------ I bought from internet I used sandblaster to expose specimen. Looks more and more beautiful: More bones were exposed. These are hands and foots. But when i use sandblaster, the bones were destroyed, too. So i stop using sandblaster, and dont know WHAT CAN I DO NEXT? ----- I see other Keichousaurus on internet. It's perfect: -------- I want to prepare my fossil like that. I am thinking about using Acid, but i havent used acid before. CAN YOU GUIDE ME WHAT TO DO NEXT? --------- I plan to use acid to soften the stone and expose the bones. Then continue using sandblasting gun (because now the stone is softer, sandblasting at low intensity will not destroy bones). Do you think so? Thank you my friends!- 10 replies
