I’ve been manually prepping some fossils I’ve found, nothing too exciting, brachiopods, bryozoans, crinoids stems, etc. I haven’t made a habit of wearing a mask, but I’m starting to doubt my lax habits. I’ve got a sinus headache that won’t quit. Of course there is dolomite dust all around my work area. I guess I’m wondering if it would be better just to make a smallish box with a clear lid and hand/glove holes in the sides. I’m toying with the idea of using my dremel, in which case I would absolutely use a box, but not sure I’m ready to do that. Feel free to let me know if I’ve already killed myself. Thanks!

Is A KN-95 Mask Good Enough For Air Scribing Outdoors
Megalodoodle posted a topic in Fossil Preparation
I was wondering if anyone knows whether the KN-95 mask is sufficient enough for air scribing outdoors? And if it isn’t could someone recommend something that would work? I’m mostly asking this because there’s a wider variety of face mask types post-COVID compared to pre-COVID. I’d also prefer the mask to be reasonably priced and easily available.- 4 replies

I've been doing preparation for four years now and have tried various masks but none seem to work for me. I've used the disposable ones and the hard ones, but since I use a microscope for preparation all they seem to do is restrict me or send all the air I'm breathing out upwards and steam up the eye pieces! I have a pretty narrow nose so I sit pretty close to my microscope. I've found when I do wear the disposable masks I end up pulling it under my nose - pretty much defeats the purpose. I was just wondering what others around the world use? I know it's dangerous to not wear a mask, and that's what I'm currently doing. For ear protection I use some noise cancelling headphones - best investment I ever made! They are a million times better than earplugs or earphones in my experience, and you can still hear when people are talking to you. Any general notes or suggestions on PPE used around the world would be great!
