This is one of my Megalodon tooth collections. What is that sticking out here? Is it called a bridge? The Chubutensis teeth are sticking out like this. Is there a possibility of Chubutensis teeth? It's just a pathological tooth, right?

Kern County vs. Florida - The Hunt for the Elusive Meg
ruffalo posted a topic in Fossil Hunting Trips
While the Megalodon tooth seems to exist as THE find for many fossil hunters and/or amateur marine paleontologists alike (and rightly so!) it's never been my own personal "holy grail." However. My partner, who graciously tags along and searches with me whenever I drag him out on hunts often hours (or even days) of driving away, is absolutely enamored by the idea of finding one of these guys. I've heard many good things about Ernst Quarries/Sharktooth Hill and the private land surrounding it in Kern County, but I've also heard incredible things about Florida creek hunting - mostly Peace River and some, unfortunately, Top-Secret spots. We luckily have the opportunity right now to go on one (or both if we play our (credit) cards right) of these trips and was hoping those more experienced in the culture of "Meg Madness" would be able to provide any advice, pointers, opinions, comments, concerns, etc.?- 5 replies

Hi all I've had this tooth for a couple of years now, I think it was purchased off a website [price removed as per forum rules]. I've passed it off as real but I'm not sure if it actually is because of its cheap price. Are there any signs this is a fake? Pen shown for size

I just bought this megalodon tooth online, and I was wondering if someone could help me out and see if it’s real. My main concern are these notches/dents on the sides of the tooth (close to the root). It kind of makes it seem like it’s been molded. I’m not sure if this is natural or not.

Johnfossilhunter posted a topic in Is It Real? How to Recognize Fossil Fabrications
Dear all, I have recently encountered a very good deal on the tooth attached below. However, the deal is too good so I wonder, is it a fake or is there a chance for it to be real. Deal is around (price removed) for a 10.5 cm tooth Thank you for your help Best- 6 replies

From the album: Sharks
Hubbell (juvenile) megalodon, likely from the East Coast. I don't understand the hype surrounding megalodon, but this one was cool enough for the collection. It has good preservation, and the tip is spalled-off from feeding.-

Edit: Wrong use of photos. Will update shortly! Hello! I've been eyeing this tooth for some time now - but before buying I could need a bit of help! The price is very reasonable for a tooth at 11,3 cm and overall the condition is good - which makes me a bit suspicious The market for fossils in the country I live in is very niche, which might explain the price, but I would like to hear the opinion from folks that have more knowledge than I do. Cheers! Anne

I've been acquiring Megalodon teeth from different localities over the past weeks. It's an ongoing project. I'm thrilled to share the first bit of my collection! I thank various members for sharing their knowledge of these localities with me. I would like to thank in particular @Praefectus for bouncing ideas, and for offering his thoughts on the legitimacy of almost every one of these; I also thank @gigantoraptor for generously gifting me the Dutch Meg!

This is advertised as a Megalodon, but it looks Great White to me. I'm not sure if the bourlette is in fact absent or simply worn off. It's almost 2 3/4", so it would be a formidable Great White if it is one. Location isn't mentioned

Indonesian Megalodon

This is an Indonesian Megalodon, 2.8" along the slant. The claim is that there's no restorations. I don't see any, and would appreciate more eyes on this. Thank you, Bellamy- 8 replies

Megalodon - Peruvian
BellamyBlake posted a topic in Is It Real? How to Recognize Fossil Fabrications
I have a question that, to an extent, is about this specific tooth. But it's also a general one. The seller claims this is a Peruvian Megalodon. How can that claim be verified? The colors seem to match up, but I've also seen similarly light-colored teeth from other localities. Is there anything else I can look for, or is it mostly the seller's reputation one has to go off? I'm interested in collecting Megalodon teeth from various exotic localities, so this is also a concern for Megs from Java, the Caribbean, New Caledonia, etc. Other than color, I know that teeth from New Caledonia teeth often contain damage from dredging, so I suppose that's another way to verify a claim for that locality. Thank you, Bellamy- 3 replies

I'd like some opinions on one more Megalodon tooth, please. It's 5.8". This one I am suspicious of because it looks a lot more polished than most of the teeth I've seen that were found in the Atlantic Ocean. The claim is no restorations, in any event, so some more eyes would be great. Thank you, Bellamy

I have here a Megalodon tooth. The one who sold it to me mention it's from Florida. I'm interested to know the locality because I'd like to acquire Megalodon from every major site. This looks Bone Valley to me, based on the coloration. Could anyone confirm if that's enough to say so?

Hi everyone, I have here a 5.6" Megalodon tooth. Before considering it further, I'd like to know if anyone can see repairs on it. The claim is that there are none. I don't see any, but I'm also not too experienced with recognizing them yet. The images aren't too large. Unfortunately, they're the best quality available. I'd appreciate more eyes on this in any case. Thank you, Bellamy

Show Us Your Wide Boys! A Thread For The Widest And Fattest Megalodon Teeth
Kurufossils posted a topic in Member Collections
Heres a fun thread for those to show off their widest and fattest looking megalodon teeth fossils in thier collections. I'll set the tone with the widest fat boy in my collection, I don't have digital calipers but it measure roughly 5.4 inches wide by 6.1 inches long. When I close my hand together it looks even more monstrous. Share yours and join the wide boyclub Got the idea while thinking about what the widest megalodon tooth ever found measures, if anyone does know do share in this thread! -
Hi, I am looking for a megalodon expert to help me see restorations on a tooth. I was told the tooth had minor restorations on the root and rear of the tooth. Can you tell be these pictures if that is correct and if there are other restorations done? Thank you for your time

Hi everyone, For a long time, I've wanted to find a Megalodon tooth. I'm from Toronto, where they don't exist. However, I have a trip to the South coming up, where I understand there are some prime locations. It's a trip primarily for business, but I'll have one full day to spend on my Megalodon hunt. I would therefore ideally want to pick a single site. I did my research and my understanding now is that some of the beaches near Charleston, SC are prime. It would be helpful to get some first-hand accounts from you guys, though. The blue area is where I'm already planning to go. Suggestions for Megalodon sites in that range are preferable. The purple area is where I can extend my trip if the sites therein are meant to be particularly fruitful. I would appreciate any suggestions on the most promising Megalodon-hunting areas in this region. The only real barrier is that I won't have access to a boat, so anything offshore isn't doable. Thank you, Bellamy
