I thought TFF-ers might be interested in seeing the environment and mines where cretaceous burmite inclusions come from. No specific identifying information on these sites were provided. Burmite can be found at the surface and deep inside the mines.

Hello, this is my first time on the site, but I've been interested in paleontology/geology since I was a kid. I never actually tried looking for fossils until just a couple days ago, as I've been wanting to start a new hobby. A major reason for me choosing this was because of where I live, which is the Mesabi iron range in Minnesota. This area is littered with abandoned open pit mines and mine dumps, which I thought would be perfect for fossil hunting (there's literally mountains of shale, so correct me if I'm wrong). In fact i live very close to an old mine turned fossil hunting park (hill annex). Anyways, i'm very amateurish in this and hope to learn more about exactly how to find fossils (im still learning how to properly split shale), where to look, identification, etc. Can't wait.
