Hello this is my second post on the forum I might be going on fossil dig this summer at my heritage guest ranch in Nebraska badlands and I was wondering what carnivores I can potentially find, and what are some of the most common finds in the carnivore and herbivore group? Also, anything else I need to know before doing this fossil hunt?

I was recently given a mandible by a retiring paleontologist that I've been prepping. It was buried deeply in matrix. He had recorded it in his records as merycoidodon sp. not knowing what species of merycoidodon it is. Does anyone know if we can tell based on size alone? Here are some pics.

Hi, there! I’m so impressed by this forum. You all have given such good directions for how to post. Fingers crossed that I dotted all of my i’s and crossed all of my t’s. I purchased this at a local auction as part of a larger lot labeled “Rocks”. Auction was in Eastern Nebraska near Freemont. I would be so grateful for any insights as to what this is. — gtdkate

Found this many years ago near the South Platte River in south western Nebraska. Just threw it in mu box of rocks and forgot about it. I am not sure it is an actual fossil. Im sure it is a tooth, but ibdont recognize it as belonging to any type of cattle or big game animal, seems too small for a wooly mammoth. Any help appreciated. I am holding it in my hand in the photos for size reference.
