Some time ago, @Fossildude19 gave me some bits of Diplurus in diamond hard shale to practice different prep techniques on the tiny little fish. In the same box, Tim sent me a few partial fish of a different species. I got to spend a few minutes working on one of them this afternoon. It is difficult to tell which side is up since this fish has some face issues. Many of the bones are displaced but well preserved. The real question is ID. I’m hoping Tim knows but if not, I have some good features to go on. This fish has distinct gar-like scales and small peg-like teeth.

Hello, I recently found this bone fragment in Monmouth County New Jersey (Cretaceous) and was wondering if anyone knew what it was. My best guess is a Mosasaur tooth socket but the bone texture looked off to me. For comparison, the last picture is of the fossil in question compared to prior finds which were identified as Mosasaur tooth sockets. As always, all help is greatly appreciated!

Hey everybody, I believe this tooth has a chance to be a worn P. affinis. It has a few distinguishing features from Squalicorax kaupi. The mesial cutting edge seems very straight even after the chip. In a regular Squalicorax it would curve down significantly by that point on the carina. Its distal notch is also kind of weird. It is like a hump that is separate from the crown. If the root was less worn it might have been bilobate and possessed a nutrient groove. As suggested by @non-remanié, there is a good chance that it is just a variation of S. kaupi or some other Squalicorax species. Thanks everyone, Joseph

Hi everyone, I found a Cretolamna tooth that has subtle secondary cusplets in the Cretaceous streams of Monmouth county NJ. I was wondering if this is variation within appendiculata or suggestive of biauriculata maroccana. Any thoughts would be appreciated as always. I hope to take some better pictures soon. The tooth in question is on the left with a typical Cretolamna appendiculata on the right for comparison.

We found this fossil this afternoon in Big Brook, NJ...trying to figure out what type of fossil bone it is (or hopefully is); any help is appreciated! Thanks!

I recently took a trip to the Iron Hill Museum in Newark, Delaware. (Which has amazing displays by the way. Its small, but fascinating.) There, I bought a small bag of about 10 fossils. I knew what most of them were, but there are a few I am unsure of what they actually are. I was wondering if anyone on the Forum could help me. All I know is that all of the Fossils were found in either Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, or Pennsylvania. 1. This one I was told that this is some kind of bone fragment. 2. This is also another bone fragment. 3. I think this is a bone fragment. 4. I know this is a vertebra but I am not sure what kind. I am pretty sure it is marine. 5. This is some kind of tooth. 6. No idea.
