Hi everyone, my family has a new found interest in fossils. Today was our first adventure toSuzie Gilmore Beach Newcastle. We have found some interesting fossils. Would love any help with scientific names, rock formation, fossil type, dates etc to fuel my kids knowledge. If I've taken a photo of nothing substantial please forgive and educate us! Thanks

Good afternoon folks. I have a very small (5mm) tooth or partial tooth on matrix from the Lance Formation outside of Newcastle, Wyoming. Is it a Theropod tooth? It's in the left middle section of the matrix.

Where are the closest dinosaur sites from The Newcastle area?
FrostbyteFossils posted a topic in Fossil Hunting Trips
So I live in the Newcastle area. I got this map that states that Coonabarabran contains jurassic rock. I can't figure out how accurate this is. So I suppose my question is: does anyone know if this is true and if not, where is the closest place to Newcastle, NSW that contains possible dinosaur or bone material to find? -
Hello Fossil Forum! An introduction from the North of England - I'm Steve - an Aussie in Newcastle upon Tyne. New to the forum, but an old rock licker and pit digger - I'm keen to discover who's out there near me and look forward to getting some finds ID'd from may regular collecting haunts between the North Yorkshire Coast and southern Scotland. I'm an active field collector and am always up for meeting new people and exchanging local knowledge. I'm currently exploring Carboniferous fossils from around the Great Limestone beds and love my fossils from the North Yorkshire Jurassic. Cheers!

If you go to the beaches around Newcastle, Australia, expect to find many glossopteris fossils!
FrostbyteFossils posted a topic in General Fossil Discussion
These are some fossil glossopteris leaves from different beaches around the Newcastle area. The rocks they are found in tend to be very hard to break, but yield lovely fossils. Good luck!- 8 replies

Hi Everyone, I suddenly have a work trip to the Black Hills of South Dakota coming up next week and I'd like to get out and collect some fossils along the way. I'm driving from Denver to Lead, SD and will be driving north on HW 85 and 18 through Newcastle. I'd be really happy to get a few stops in along the way and any potential information would really be great. Unfortunately, I won't have a ton of time to be able to stop and really dig, so some road cuts or target formations would be super helpful for surface collecting. I'm open to every type of fossil. I know there's a lot of fossils in that section of the state so I'm looking forward to hopefully finding some decent stuff! Thanks! Caleb
