Hi, we come across this pattern on a hike in Wales that didn’t seem to match the rest on the rock and were curious, does anyone have any suggestions?

We went for a fossil hunting trip yesterday in the Drumheller area. We found a few decent bones. On one of the bones, there was this strange pattern of white streaks. It looks almost like lighting. It even makes a full circle at one point. When I cleaned the bone, I noticed that the pattern disappeared with water, but once it dries, the pattern reappears. This is one of the strangest things we have ever found. ( keep in mind we are beginners and we haven’t found much). If anyone knows what this is, any explanation is welcome. Thanks, Joy

I found this oddity a while ago on a rocky beach. Im not sure what it is. It could be a fossil but I'm more thinking it's some kind of ancient pottery or stoneware due to the pattern. It looks like the same pattern continues round what might have been a plate. There was know roman habitation in the area where it was found...any ideas?

Found this in the river bed of the Sweetwater in Wyoming. Wierd thing about this is that I've seen the same pattern in other rock formations up higher in elevation but in the same area. Those others I speak of don't have the upward "waffle iron" raised texture like this one does. The others are only the pattern, entirely flat with the stone like a drawing would look. I'm stumped ...

Happy New Year everyone! I found this little fossil while walking the Neptune Beach, FL. The piece is small, 15mm x 10mm x 2mm and has two lines of somewhat evenly spaced round holes/indents? that dont go completely through it. I did the best I could with the pictures and hopefully it is going to be enough to ID it. As always, thank you for your help!

Traveling through Yellowstone, we stopped at Pilgrim Creek....Beautiful !!!!! Spotted this unique rock / stone, and had my husband carry it to truck so we could look at it better. It is so unusual looking !!! (or it is to me...lol) Tried keeping it wet so the pattern would come out more. And yes...we put it back !!!! Any ideas of what kind of rock it is ? Trying to upload more pics....but its not working !!! See more pics in the reply boxes

Hello, I thought I'd share some of these interesting rocks I've split. I noticed these sand-like grains in a rock I split, they are nice golden-white grains, it's nothing like the surrounding rocks. I was imagining it to be ancient sand from the sea floor, but that's very unlikely. This bit here is quite big, and came from a large rock, you can see the white grains right in the middle.

Hi all, i found this while while looking for teeth in a creek in South Carolina, and the pattern caught my attention. Any idea what it might be or what might have made that scale-like pattern? The rock is 1 inch in length and about 0.3 inches wide. thanks in advance!

Hey all, I was fossil hunting on Boca Grande beach in SW Florida and found this interesting piece. It has a unique pattern on it, almost like a glypodont but I know it's not that. Curious to what it could be?

I found this near Alpena, Michigan in the lake. In this area, I find Petoskey stones, favorites, occasional chain coral, occasional horn corals, and large, branching fossils in a black matrix. There are Devonian era fossils in this area. Obviously, I am not a fossil expert, I was mostly looking for Petoskey stones and pudding stones for lapidary purposes. I hunt this beach quite often, but have never found a fossil like this. It has a Fibonacci pattern like pine cones or sunflowers have.

Morning! I was fossil hunting along Calvert Cliffs, MD this week and saw a weird pattern in the cliff wall line. I found a plate with unusual patterns on it. At first I thought it may be a turtle shell but now I'm thinking it may not be. I would love to get some insight. Thanks!

I don’t expect this tooth fragment can be identified but I’m curious if any one has ever seen enamel like this? It seems to have a thin clear outer layer and the layer below has the dots. Found Myrtle beach where Cretaceous, Pliocene, and Pleistocene fossils can be found.

This engraved fossil has the size a little bit bigger than my thumb,I wonder what it could be, it was in a place full of sea shell fossils. Kind regards, Robert
