Found what appears to be petrified wood in the tampa bay area on a beach. I’ve never found petrified wood in FL before so I’m just posting to make sure this is what it is. It looks exactly like wood, before I picked it up I thought it was just driftwood. But when I picked it up i immediately knew it was stone, it is heavy and clanks on other stones. Is it petrified palm wood maybe?

What is this? Found on the beach in SoCal. Petrified, and worn from the waves and salt, but still really unique. Crustacean shell? Bone seems a bit of a stretch, given its shape.

Hello! I bought this piece of petrified wood the other month. The seller was unable to provide any specificities to the fossil. I was hoping that anyone could shed some light on the specificities on this petrified wood (i.e. Location, Age, Species). Appreciate any help into this. Thank you!

Hello! I’m Kate. I love rocks and i went rock hunting while on vacation in missouri. What i found was a ton of fossils. So many that i found myself trying to be selective…. I can only carry so much. i have very limited information on fossils so lets just say i know basically nothing. I dont buy them and have no plans to sell. so this is, to me, the most amazing fossil i found. Ive been working on cleaning away the rock for a couple of weeks but the central fossil was pretty much just ss you see it here. I only had to clear a little between what im calling the top and the bottom. Most of my cleaning has been on the right snd left sides of the rock. this was found in a dry creek bed in Hannibal Missouri. any assistance and advice is greatly appreciated. Im cleaning with vinegar, dental pick, scribe, straight pin, etc. kind regards, Kate

I found a couple of these in Central New Mexico. This flash is unlike anything I have seen before. The silver is a bright, clean sheen.

... It looks like it, but I found it in Western Massachusetts, and I didn’t think we had any here? There’s two different pieces. One is much bigger and kind of looks like a leg of lamb or something. there is an edge on it that’s kind of grayish and feels like wood, almost like that part of the wood hardened but didn’t change color or anything. the other piece is a little smaller than my palm & has more obvious banding.

Hi everyone! I just found this pieces after the newest trip in Johor Bahru, Malaysia. The information I got that the sediment there is from late Jurassic to early Creataceous, and most the fossil they found are fern. So anyone have an idea that my pieces could be (Seed/wood/fern/..)? I’m very appreciated. thank you

As with my last post, these were gifts from an outgoing science teacher to me. Also as with my last post, I know very little about them. The school is in Arizona, so I might assume they are from here. My guess is petrified wood, of some sort. There are three samples, two pics of each. Thank you for all of your help.

Hey everyone! I found this outside a small kettle hole on the east end of Long Island. Can someone tell me what I’m looking at? And because I’m hopeful for petrified wood, perhaps I can be shown what to look for and what to avoid. I have more photos, but I didn’t want to flood the site with my first post. Thank you!

Hello all. Noob here. I’m Scott in east Texas. My stepfather unearthed this petrified palm bulb? caudex? while clearing some land a few years back in Trinity county Texas and I’m having trouble finding other examples of it and it was brought to my attention today that given how intact it is and the size it may be a bit rarer. I’ll apologize for only the one pic atm as the rock is actually at our other place. It’s ~10-12” in diameter and ~12-14” tall and I’d guess ~70lbs or a bit more. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance!

Hey everyone, new here, but hoping I’ve come to the right place! My family just got back from tooth hunting on shark tooth island and found these too and wondered how we could confirm what they are and if they’re just ordinary or could be extraordinary!
