Is A KN-95 Mask Good Enough For Air Scribing Outdoors
Megalodoodle posted a topic in Fossil Preparation
I was wondering if anyone knows whether the KN-95 mask is sufficient enough for air scribing outdoors? And if it isn’t could someone recommend something that would work? I’m mostly asking this because there’s a wider variety of face mask types post-COVID compared to pre-COVID. I’d also prefer the mask to be reasonably priced and easily available.- 4 replies

Is A Blast Cabinet Required For Outdoor Air Scribing?
Megalodoodle posted a topic in Fossil Preparation
I was wondering if a blast cabinet is required to air scribe fossils outdoors? (As long as one wears the proper PPE and safety equipment of course.) I’m trying to save some on my setup until I gather the rest of the cash needed to buy the blast cabinet and move my prepping indoors. And besides, the cold has never really bothered me anyways.- 4 replies

Is PPE required if you have a blast cabinet and dust collector? Can I work indoors with such a setup?
Trilobite Enthusiast posted a topic in Fossil Preparation
Pretty much the topic. I am building fossil preparation lab, and it would be preferable for me to have it be indoors, in my basement, so that everything may be protected from the elements. If it is in my basement, I want to ensure that I don't contaminate my house with dust. I'd also like to know whether a blast cabinet and dust collector are sufficient to allow me to prep without needing to wear a dust mask. What do you guys say? -
I've been doing preparation for four years now and have tried various masks but none seem to work for me. I've used the disposable ones and the hard ones, but since I use a microscope for preparation all they seem to do is restrict me or send all the air I'm breathing out upwards and steam up the eye pieces! I have a pretty narrow nose so I sit pretty close to my microscope. I've found when I do wear the disposable masks I end up pulling it under my nose - pretty much defeats the purpose. I was just wondering what others around the world use? I know it's dangerous to not wear a mask, and that's what I'm currently doing. For ear protection I use some noise cancelling headphones - best investment I ever made! They are a million times better than earplugs or earphones in my experience, and you can still hear when people are talking to you. Any general notes or suggestions on PPE used around the world would be great!
