Hi there! I'm Rachel, a newbie to the forum from Long Island, NY. I have a Master's degree in geoscience with a concentration in paleontology, but I'm currently finishing up my last semester of law school (big career change, I know). During my Master's I studied Pleistocene proboscideans (mainly American mastodon) from Saltville, Virginia. I don't know much about invertebrate fossils, but I'm planning a trip to St. Leon, IN soon and I'm so excited to find some Ordovician fossils! I'll post pics once I go if I find anything cool.

Hey, I'm writing a paper on elephant evolution and am a bit murky on the Paleocene-Eocene specimens. I've read that after the PT-thermal maximum, Eocene mammals became the dwarfed counterparts of their Paleocene counterparts. But it seems to me like there's a trend of size increase, not decrease for the Proboscidea ancestors. Am I missing something? Thanks!

how many species of Deinotherium existed? have found several sources that say differently, some sources say 3 while others say 4. And what is is the difference between deinotherium and Prodeinotherium bavaricum ? thanks in advance!

Hello, My Ph.D. dissertation was on Proboscidean evolution. I came to a wall when my trail of research led to the Asian continent. I have been out of the loop lately and wanted to know if anyone was up on Chinese fossil finds, especially Pleistocene. hypothesis leads me up and over the Tibetan Plateau. However, I was wondering if anyone has heard about any Chinese Mammoth, Mastodon, or Gomphothere fossils in China? Thanks
