Hey all, Made two trips to Ramanessin Brook that I have yet to share. The first trip provided much of the same stuff I had already had but did yield me an amazing sawfish rostral tooth. Hi folks, Had this come up in my sifter at Ramanessin brook, i'm thinking to ID it as a Plesiosaur tooth due to the curvature of the tooth and the oval indent in the root, would love some thoughts from experts

I ventured to the NJ brooks last weekend and made it to both Big Brook and Ramanessin Brook (Cretaceous, mix of Navesink and Mt. Laurel formations I believe). I found a few goblin and crow shark teeth, but need some help with ID for a few other finds. Thanks in advance for any help! Here are some detailed images of each. #1: concretion, or tooth? #2, definitely looks like a vertebra, but for a fish or shark? #3 also looks like a vert, or is it another concretion? #4: I found a few like this, but can't tell if it's just a weird concretion or some kind of plate or scute? #5 Looks like something in matrix #6 looks like some kind of small reptile tooth to me. It's a little hard to tell, but it does have a worn enamel appearance and some worn ridges on two sides. #7 of course is a pretty large shark tooth, but it's a bit worn and hard to tell from what genus/species. Looks a little like a goblin, but the base near the root is so wide. #8 might just be a concretion, but it did have a terestrial animal tooth appearance to it #9 looks like a tooth, but I can't place whether it's a fish or reptile? #10 looks like part of a vertebra? #11 looks like part of a plate or reptile shell? And last #12, pycnodont? bone?

Hi everyone, I was wondering if you could help me out with something here. I found this piece of ammonite at Ramanessin Brook (whole piece is about 6cm across). I initially thought it was some sort of internal cast of a gastropod but when I noticed the suture patterns I realized it had to be the inner whorl of an ammonite. However, I'm perplexed by the texture of this piece. Parts of it displays an almost "scaly" pattern which I've never seen before. Any ideas what could have caused this? Thanks! Hi folks, found a couple teeth i'm having trouble identifying 1 - Croc or mosasaur? 2 - Sawfish rostrum? 3 - ? These ones confuse me, they seem like badly worn Goblin teeth but the root doesn't align with the usual ways we see goblin shark teeth fragment - are these something else?

We managed to get out to the NJ brooks today after two weeks of heavy rains, we wanted to try out a new spot we hadn't been to before in the brook and the results did not disappoint! We wound up with a good assortment of quality specimens including many teeth taking their place in our collection as the highest quality/largest - total tripmakers! We were immediately met by a doe on the trail down, Luck? one may think After we picked a suitable spot to settle in and sift, this came up in the first scoop Immediately followed by this Happy with our spot, we sat and sifted for the day - the day's haul (grid is 1" x 1") Tripmaker teeth, our best/largest Crow shark (Squalicorax pristodontus) so far, largest Goblin (Scapanorhynchus texanus) anterior, and best/largest Goblin (Scapanorhynchus texanus) lateral. Unsure what the tooth between the Goblins is, leaning towards a Mackrel By far and away the most curious set of finds. These pieces came up in the same spot over the course of a couple of hours, I'm sure they're all fragments of a crab/lobster/ghost shrimp claw yet the coloration is different on all 3. Either way pretty cool My first vert, though only a frag, thinking some sort of bony fish Finally, mystery bone frag - possibly Pleistocene given the coloration/weight?

Hey all, Went and tried my luck at Ramanessin Brook. Had a blast finding teeth but when it came to looking at IDs this one stumped me. It has a slight curvature and is shaped different than any enchodus tooth I have found so I think it is safe to rule that out. It reminds me of potentially Xiphactinus or Reptile (specifically plesiosaur) although the size is only 1.2 cm. Any input helps! I can always take more pics if needed. thanks!

This damaged tooth has a more conical structure than a sharks and visible striations all around. What do you think?

Hi folks, Found a couple of mystery bones in the brook today, would appreciate thoughts on if these are modern or Pleistocene #1 - some sort of vertebrae, very lightweight so i'm thinking modern maybe deer? #2 best guess is a beaver tooth? unsure on if modern or not #3 fairly long bone, feels much heavier/more solid than I would expect Thanks,

Hi everyone, I found this at Ramanessin Brook today. I thought it resembled the crocodile scutes that can be found here but I've never seen one in person and I know that concretions can do really tricky things so I'm not sure. Thoughts?

I think I have the correct IDs on most of what I have collected but am stumped on the largest tooth I have found as well as a couple of others Mystery tooth anterior view Mystery tooth posterior view Categorization page #1 Top to bottom - Goblin Shark / Ammonite Fragment / Crab or Lobster claw piece / Sawfish Rostral Teeth / Crow Shark Categorization page #1 Top to bottom - Goblin Shark (Lateral) / Teeth I can't ID / big mystery tooth / random fragments The ??? section represents teeth I can't ID using the available material on fossilguy's site, most appear to be similar Thanks,

Out hunting on the Ram, came across this odd piece, my mind immediately jumped to a bone fragment of a large aquatic reptile, the holes in it are like nothing I've ever seen, and it feels lighter than a rock of similar size. So, I'm hopeful, any ideas or help would be awesome! Thanks guys!

Found this today out at the brooks, stumped on what it could be - never seen this kind of patterning on anything from the brooks before. Perhaps some sort of armor plate?

My friend found this in Ramanessin Brook. I have found a Giant Beaver tooth before in Big Brook, but lost it. Can anyone let me know if this is another Giant Beaver Tooth.

Hi, I’m hoping to get to big brook or ramanessin brook this week and was wondering which I would have a better chance at finding a mosasaur tooth, and, if there are any other places I’d have better chance at finding one?
