Hello, A while ago I got some unprepped bones from the hell creek formation, South Dakota. This rib was in multiple pieces, but I wanted to give it a try. Could someone ID this please? Thank you Natalie

Found these rib bones along the Neuse River in coastal NC, USA. Slightly abnormal for the specific area because I usually find smaller bone fragments with black-phosphate fossilization, mostly whale, dolphin or dugong. (And lots of shark teeth.) These are different and I wouldn't rule out a land mammal. Plz advise.

I found these single Ichthyosaur digits on separate hunts but from around the same location. I bet they're from the same beast judging by the size. One has a rib which looks super cool. -

I found this bone (rib) in a cave in Slovenia-EU. ???

These two pieces of bone like things are from Henan. Are they rib bone fossil?

Here is another piece from the box of Lance Creek Wy stuff. The area is Cretaceous and I’m hoping this is the tip of a rib. Any ideas? I will add a OU ture of the cross section when I get home this evening.

This Kem Kem fossil rib I acquired a while back has obviously been re-assembled from multiple fractured pieces (with quite a lot of the dreaded Kem Kem filler) but the pieces look consistent, the surface preservation is nice, and the shape is pretty distinctive. It's 285mm long. Is there any way to determine what this might have been from or are ribs too generic? It was listed as dinosaur, but it could be crocodilian.

Hi, I found this bone on a SW Florida Beach. I know these worn tumbled bones are hard to ID but maybe it has some characteristics that might help like the curve. Since it's curved I thought possible rib bone? Any ideas? Thanks TFF!

A little collection of assorted mosasaur fossils from 2 different places that I got when I first started collecting. 2 different types of vertebrae, one is mosasaur, and the other is a questionable claim of mosasaur, a corprolite that was claimed to be that of a mosasaur, a tooth, & 7 rib fragments. 2 ribs have predation marks, as well as the large vertebra. The large vert has a round tooth indent on the very center. The 2nd rib down has tooth scratches along the surfaces, & 3rd rib down has a round tooth indent in the center, which is probably what caused a strip across the middle to break off. There are 2 other tooth marks on that rib as well, forming a diagonal line from above left of the center indent, breaking off a piece along the top, to below right. -
Hi all, I found these (modern) bones on one of the beaches of the Cape of Good Hope (South Africa). All three bones were found about 3-5 m apart, so there is a chance that they come from the same animal. We have a rib, a vertebrae, and a jaw (missing the teeth). Anyone have a clue on the ID? Thanks in advance, Max

This is a 10 cm long part of an Ichthyosaur rib from the quarry Kromer near Holzmaden. As you can see its kinda damaged. Firstly it was already damaged as i found it and secondly the preparation wasnt optimal as well. Normally you prep these bones from Holzmaden with air abrasive but I only have an air pen. So I damaged it a bit further.- 8 comments

Score one for luck. I got lucky and won this awesome fossil to add to my sloth collection. $14.99 shipped. Sometimes you just get lucky and nobody else bids! very rare sloth rib bone from the Pleistocene of North Florida. The species is either Megalonyx or Paramylodon. This specimen measures 6 1/4" long. This specimen is exceptionally well preserved and highly detailed.

So noticed a few weeks ago that the stormwater division was widening and refortifying a drainage ditch in N. Charleston SC. So as you all suggest and I always try to do I got permission to search the area and came up with many Great White and Angustiden teeth as well as many many bones I could not identify. However this thick, what I assume is a rib bone caught my attention being so thick. The ditch is in the Miocene/Pliocene era Im assuming and just wondering if this would be a whale rib or a dugong. Any suggestions would be great.

Hey guys! Mom bought me a lot of fossils for my birthday. Everything else was straightforward but this one puzzled me a bit. It was listed as a triceratops rib head bone. The seller stated it was purchased at an estate sale unprepared. The sale he bought it from said it was found in South Dakota, formation not given. Seller says he prepped it himself after buying and left the bottom unprepared. Measures 12 in by 6 in. Does this indeed appear to be a rib head?

So, I have a curiosity. I have been, as you may already know, preparing a pair of Edmontosaurus ribs that I obtained, (original location presently unknown, but I can find out.) As I have been piecing the bits together, I have found that I have a third piece that I have reassembled that does not match either rib, nor does it match the material of either rib, but I have been assured they were found in association. It definitely seems like it could be another rib, but I'm not convinced it's from the same critter, or even type of critter. Any thoughts would be appreciated!

So I've been working on what I thought originally was 1 Edmontosaurus rib. It has since turned out to be what appears to be an opposing pair of ribs. I thought I would share some of my photos as I go. Please be kind to me, as this is my first vertebrate prep work. Photo I took upon arrival. First rib, top 1/2 complete Top 1/2 with a seemingly extraneous tip, or other unrelated bone. (Not sure.) Working on the head end of the 2nd rib: Matching the other remaining unprepped halves

so bought yet another rib from them Berber's of morocco, this one is different to the other two i have in that it is fatter, and has different feel to it, was also found completely in red sandstone not the usual conglomerate mix of clay and silts, just working with an engraving tool and gently removing the hard matrix around it. opinions on how my work is going would be appreciated

Hey guys! Found this on my property again. (Menlo Park, CA) I no longer assume anything haha but I think this is a bone, possibly a rib? It is slightly over 3 inches long, and 1 inch wide If it is, is there anyway to tell what it's from, or at least generally speaking? or how old it might be? Like within the past 100 years? ? I really have no idea about these things... As always thanks for your help and patience with a newb!

I found this shell piece (rock canyon anticline) with different interior and exterior rib patterns. Approximately two by three inches. Any ideas?

A 10 cm long unidentified bone from the lower Jurassic from Holzmaden. I think that its a part of a rib, but I am not sure. -
Excellent day to hunt. It is warm and going to get colder over the next few days. We are finding small shark teeth and a lot of mammal materials. Up comes this rib.. at the base , it is 4.5 inches in circumference and half moon in shape, Flat on one side, curved on the other. This rib says something about the mammal, much larger than human, much smaller than mammoth or mastodon, etc.. There are only so many choices in the Peace River.. What mammal has a rib like this?
