    RockFossil or FossilRock

Hunting today. In an area which I had not previously found the rockfossil mix, I found many of them. Here are my most interesting. Here is one , which I believe is whole, where I think I know the genus, and likely the species. looking for confirmations... This is a miocene fossil ... 5 - 23 mya. And # 2 is a broken tooth, Once again miocene fauna. and finally, one where I have no clue... This is an oddly shaped bone.... I am seeking the most basic clues. Which bones look like this one? As always, comments, suggestions, identifications are ALL appreciated!!!! Please do.

    Rock or petrified toe???

My dad found this rock in the Vermillion River in Illinois last weekend during a camping trip. While my dad insists it's a petrified toe or a toe that was possibly covered in mud then compressed (or something of the like???? I'm not quite sure...), I personally think it's just a rock. Can someone please help officially determine what exactly it is? Thank you! -Abby

    a shell mound?

Hi! There is a rock with fossils (?) my house. It's from my father, passed away about 10 years ago. I don't know what it is, but maybe it's from his China travel. I have searched some images of old sea animals fossil, but still don't have a idea. Is there anyone explain them? Thanks!

    Help with rock identification?

Hi! My dad and I went to look for shark teeth on the beach, we found a few. My dad picked up this rock which we both find very interesting, but I just can't seem to place it. It was found on melkbos beach where pleistocene fossils are found. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

    Egg or Rock?

My father lives in SE MN, south of Rochester. He lives on a farm on top of a hill and has been doing a lot of topo work. In doing so, he has discovered that almost every rock he picks up has what appears to be seashells and fossilized plants in them. His research led him to conclude that the fossils are in the range of 400 million years old. The other day he was walking his land and saw what he thought was a potato sticking out of the ground. He picked it up and was puzzled. It feels hard like a rock, is smooth, and most shockingly it glows when light is applied to it. Is this an egg of some sort?

    Found in colorado

I found d this in nw Colorado. What is it? Coral, bone or just rock maybe?
  9. Hi, my space left for things is becoming smaller, so I thought I'd use my windowsill. I found different things online claiming different things. Will the rock colour fade or discolour at all due to being on the windowsill? Many thanks.

    Is this a fossil?

Hi I found this rock a couple days ago and really didnt think it a fossil , but still in the back of my head the curiosity keeps growing. When i came across this awesome site where you can actually get answers for free, I thought, " ALRIGHT". I'm just kidding, but could someone please identify what this is? I live in northern California, but don't hold that against me. It's hard enough having to admit it. 7

    Rock or fossil

I found this probably rock near Estes park Colorado, I’m pretty sure it’s a rock but I thought i would come here and ask just in case, so fossil or not?

    Croc or rock?

Sounds better than geologic or vertebrate. The shape is obviously what caught my attention but the surface texture looked like rock so I was about to toss it when the bottom made me think twice. Still think rock but wanted your opinions. 1/2 inch long. Thanks and apologies for the finger nails.

    Two colored rock

I want to find out what this rock is, they are very common in Colorado landscaping rocks, where I found this one and just want to know what it is, I’m unsure if its possible to tell but I had to try.

    What is this?

I am clueless as to what this is (more so than usual). It doesn’t look like the usual concretions. It doesn’t look like the usual shells. It doesn’t look like a fossil and I’ve never seen coral from Big Brook. It’s 1.75 x 1 inch and the bottom is concave

    Unknown blue circles on rock

A family member found this rock in northern West Virginia and noticed it had small blue circles on it, under a centimeter and wonders what it is. The entire boulder is pretty large though. It was found a few months ago so these are the only photos I have.
  18. Hi thanks for having me I look forward to being part of this group I am going to stir things up not intentionally or with ill-will but solely because of what I've come to the table with science I don't know if they will ever be ready are the truth or if they're trying to keep it on the down-low for other reasons but you cannot erase history you cannot no matter how hard you try and I'm about to show you that thank you for your time and checking me out what I have to say... Furthermore I'm not sure if there's another place to note anyting so I'm going to go ahead and attach it here as far as the process of geodes being created as bubbling up and gas and Wallah into the minerals and such in their you have a geode I disagree I disagree completely it's all wrong there was some kind of transformation between the Earth and time and minerals yes absolutely as with anything there are many factors included so it's not so cut-and-dry and science has incorrect in several areas prepare 2B boggled and mystified that's really about all I can say. 4 Now LOL Also I might add that not all of my pictures and not all of my information is pertaining to geodes so you'll have to be able to distinguish what a geode is by looking at it know that it may not correspond with the picture I am having in the bunch as yet I'm not quite sure how this posts will allow me to enter into posting so we will see but I have several fossils that are interesting and also some very interesting geodes Well I can see right away now after trying to post more than one picture to this post that it will not allow me to or I may be not understanding how to do that so when to attempt to post a few more pictures maybe I'll have to start a new topic I'm not sure lol. Ty
  19. Hi again, I’ve just posted my first find, and here is another I would like help with please. Found on the Isle of Wight Jurassic coast, grey coloured rock around 8cm in length, with what looks like some fish bone type markings. On the reverse side of the same rock is a round light grey circle about 1cm across with a thin white circle surrounding it. Please can anyone help with more information... thanks!

    Jurassic Coast ID please...

Hi, first time fossil hunter here - so apologies in advance! Currently visiting the Isle of Wight Jurassic Coast and spent the day at the beach and have a couple of interesting finds - just not sure if what I found is actually anything more than just a pretty rock! So, this first one is about 11cm in length and had a sort of white slightly porous texture, with yellow brown markings. One marking has the texture of tiny bumps, whilst the other looks like smoother ridges. Can anyone please help?

    Strange rock

I found this rock in arapahoe county colorado it is very heavy for its size and in the outside has clear layers but the inside has opposite layers make a grid like pattern. Any idea what it is?
  22. Top Trilo

    Rock with odd line

as you can see in both photos there are a couple darker layers but a thin line cuts it and it has shifted. My guess is a transform boundary like a mini version of the San Andreas fault in California but I am unsure on if it can happen in a rock this small. It obviously happened a long time ago because the rock has smoothed out. So I guess my question is how did this happen? It was found in some landscaping rocks in arapahoe county Colorado

    Facilities For Radiometric Dating?

I'm looking for recommendations on places to send rock samples for radiometric dating. If anyone has had direct experience with a particular facility or has heard good things, I'd love to know who you have worked with as I have a few samples I'd like to send off (ideally a facility in the USA for reduced shipping purposes).
