    British Columbia rock or bone

Hello, I was out walking literally in the middle of nowhere near Jarray, British columbia. There were many different rock out crops and cliffs so i decided to have a peak around. Eventually I came to a hill littered with tens of thousands of rock chunks. Then this guy caught my eye, nothing else in the area even remotely resembled the porous characteristic of this specimen. So I was curious on your thoughts whether this could be bone or just a run of the mill porous rock? Thanks!

    Identification please!

I've had been in possession of this for almost 20 years now and never knew for certain if it was just a rock or if it was a fossil. I unfortunately do not remember how I even obtained it since it was so long ago so I don't know where it originated from. Any insight into what it is will be greatly appreciated!! It's about 3.5 cm x 3 cm.

Is this a rock or an egg?

Hello all! I’m new here and extremely new to fossils! Today, we went fossil hunting in Walton-on-the-Naze in Essex, England. It’s not far from where we live and is known to be one of the best places in the UK for fossils (particularly the teeth of megalodoms). Anyhow, I found this item and wonder if it’s an egg or a rock. It is relatively small, just under 3 inches long. It feels substantial in weight, 137g, and has cracks and pours. Please see the attached photos Location information: The fossiliferous clays and sands exposed in The Naze area belong to the London Clay and Red Crag formations, and provide evidence of prehistoric life and conditions 54 million years ago (mya) and c.2.5 mya respectively. Fossils occur commonly throughout both formations attracting international interest since the 19th century.

Weird water worn rock or something else?

Is this just a water worn rock in a weird pattern, or is it something else? Found at West Runton, UK by my son along with a bucket full of flint rocks and a small handful of belenmites. It’s an intriguing pattern, so even if it’s just a rock I still think it’s neat.

    Rock or Fossil?

Hello, I am hoping somebody will tell me whether or not this is a fossil. It was embedded in layers of a larger rock (from my yard in middle Tennessee) and appears to be a different color than the surrounding rock. It broke away from the area circled in the last picture.

    More from Tunkhannock

I found a few more pieces I wasn’t totally sure about. All came from Tunkhannock, Pa in a mountainous area. All three of these have me stumped. Thanks for the help in advance! First one:

    Beautiful Blue Mineral! Identification?

Good afternoon to everyone of my dear and beloved TFF! My sister bought these strange rocks in Brazil that seem to be a fragile sandstone. So fragile that it can get extremely brittle in contact with water. And in this red sandstone is inlaid a strange blue mineral, which seems rust, I do not know, but it is very beautiful! Can someone help me with the ID? I thank you for all the opinions!

    Fossilized bone or odd rock?

I'm wondering if this is a fossilized bone or just an odd rock I found in the Oquirrh Mountains in Utah? It has a unique convex and concave surface pattern in some areas. The red and white parts of the rock have different textures; the white is very rigid and rough. All the pictures are of the same rock at differing angles. Please share your ideas, thanks!

    found in Hell Creek, MT

Hi, I have no clue on this one. I was out on private land near Jordan MT. I found this rock which is unlike any other in the area. I spent two days on the property and found nothing else even remotely close to this. The land owner has had several Triceratops and Tyrannosaurus taken from his land. He didn't know what this was either. I thought it might be coprolite but I don't see any chunks of material. It looks like the core is darker with this lighter brown outside. It's relatively dense compared to most of the rocks I was picking up. It's about 7" long and 3.75" wide at base. I am thinking about cutting it. I'd be most appreciative if someone could help. Thanks!! Frank

    Mysterious Rock

Good afternoon to everyone. I present here one of the many strange minerals of the Brazil that I have no idea what it can be. In March of this year, I was in Brazil. I saw a great ravine of red earth, and it was in this ravine that I encountered this strange rock. This rock has a velvety appearance and crumbled easily when washed. All I know is that this ravine of red earth is quite rich in quartz, so much so that it was precisely in this ravine of red earth that I also found this strange amethyst: I thank you for all the help in identification. Thank you!

    Unknown Fossil

Hello, I'm new to this site and I don't know much about fossils. I have searched some trying to figure out what this rock is but have found nothing quite like it. If anyone can help me identify this I would greatly appreciate it.

    Ordinary rock or old egg?

Hello! I'm from Brazil, South America, and live by a beach. I like to walk around the rocks since there are lots of different rocks, and if i start to climb, the "grassy" area is full of sedimentary rocks. I've found this stone, dropped it, it didn't broke in half like other stones do, it released some type of shell (there are 3 pieces on the photos) and showed something like a "inner stone". I know that it's probably nothing since i don't know much about rocks and fossils, but who knows. I never found other rock with this "double layer" here. Thanks for your time!

Is this a fossil or just a rock it just looks odd to me but I have no experience with fossils so I'm not sure it's probably just a rock

    Is this a fossil?

Hello, I’m hoping someone will let me know if this rock has some type of fossil in it? I found it in a creek in middle Tennessee. After cleaning it with vinegar and water, several little black spots became visible. Are those fossil imprints of some sort?
  17. Hello, I’m hoping someone can let me know what caused the three indentations in this rock? Weathering? Some type of track? Something previously embedded in the rock?

    Tooth?

Found in the Olympic peninsula, shows what looks like healed cracks, as well as one that only partly healed. Just over two inches long. Any ideas? The picture is on a 3 inch - 5 inch index card.

    Very bizarre rock! What is?

A place in the world where you can find the weirdest rocks on the planet? I would say it's Brazil! Here is an example of this, and I have no idea what this might be, but I assure you, it is very heavy. Anyone know what this might be? I appreciate all the opinions and helps. Thank you!
  20. Hi I was recently doing some planting when I came across this thing. Does anyone know what it could be? Our house was built in 1800 and this was located close to the stonewall that borders our property.

    Another weird rock for identification

Good evening to all! I have already said that the most bizarre minerals from around the planet can be found in Brazil? This is another bizarre rock that was discovered in Brazil. I do not know what it is, but this black rock, I suspect it's basalt. Could it be basalt? But what struck me was this strange, very bright incrustation that looks like molten quartz ... Sorry for that expression, but as I said on previous topics, I do not understand anything about minerals, and I'm starting my collection now. Thanks for the help and opinions.

Strange but beautiful rock, what is it?

Hello my friends. Good evening! This strange rock came from Brazil. I had to wet it, otherwise the smaller details could not be visible. But it's a very beautiful rock. Any idea what that might be? Green quartz? As always, I thank you for all your help! Please my friends; @ynot and @DPS Ammonite

    Fossil or not?

Hey guys! I hardly know a thing about fossils and it would be great if someone could help me out. My family and I visited Chippoke State Park and found what appears to be either a fossil or just a shell trapped in sand. It’s about 3 and a half inches wide and long. Anything helps. Thanks!
