Hello, I have a rather large rock in my yard (middle Tennessee) which I have always thought was interesting. I’m hoping somebody will let me know which type(s) of rock it is? It has gray and white crystals(?) of some sort on top, along with white streaks running through it. It also has several knobby areas. Are these chert nodules? Any information is appreciated. Thanks!

I’m hoping someone can tell me if this is a paw track of some sort? There are three indentations on this rock of very similar shape and size. (four inches wide) Or would it have been impossible for this type of rock to have had any tyoe of tracks? The rock was in my barn in middle Tennessee. Thanks.

I was walking on the beach in Cape Charles, VA and both of these ‘rocks’ turned up in the surf together. I feel like they may be fossils but I am not sure so I am turning to you experts ;-) If they are not fossils then are they bone or just very strange rocks?!? Thank you!!

I’m hoping someone will let me know if this is “just” a rock, or possibly a coprolite of some sort? It seems to have different textures and layers. Thanks!

I have never attempted to remove a fossil from rock. I don't have any tools, so I am looking to invest in tools needed. What's the best way to extract the fossil??

I have been wondering if the black things on the side of this rock could be some type of fossil? Is it a type of fossilized plant material? Thanks!

This was found on my property in middle Tennessee. I have always wondered if it was once used as some type of tool, or if it is just an odd shaped rock. Now that I have cleaned it a bit, it looks like it could possibly be bone. Can anyone tell me what it is? Thanks!

I was wondering a few things about opals effect on fossils and bones in general. 1) does it degrade the value? 2) how long does it take? 3)how does it work? 4) would I be able to do it to some spare animal teeth? (Hope that’s not weird haha)

Hi everyone! I found a interesting rock with metallic luster here at home in Texas. I think it might be a mineral rock but I have know clue as to what type of mineral, Thankfully we have sites like this one for rookies like me that don’t have a clue about rocks and fossils. I have posted pics of the rock and would love to know what everyone else thinks about what mineral type it could be, thanks y’all!

I'm sorry my first post must be a fossil ID question, but this perplexes me. Found this in Syracuse, NY today. It looks man made, but at the same time. It's built into the rock. TY in advance!!.

I found this in NY and polished it not realizing it was something other than a normal rock. It broke in half. It is 1" x 2". What on Earth is this?

Hi, I'm new here and just wondered if anyone has an idea of what this is? I have no knowledge in this field as this is not my area of science. I just thought it would be interesting to find out what I have stumbled upon. Thank you in advance.

Hello all, I'm once again asking for help in identifying an object I found. I have no idea what this is, it was found in Buchanan county Iowa, in an old quarry exposing Devonian aged material. It seems to have quartz on the bottom side (as far as I'm able to tell but I still have a lot to learn about rocks). It almost resembles shell material to me but maybe it's some kind of concretion or something. Hopefully someone has seen something like this, thanks for your help and time!

Hello everyone I have here a specimen and can’t figure out if it’s just a plain ol’rock but I think it might not be a rock at all. This specimen weighs almost 5lbs it’s original location was found in Carrizo Springs Texas at a drilling rig location. Some helpful info and opinions about what this specimen could be would really be great -Thanks y’all!
