Hi all, At the local market yesterday I bought these 4 teeth (in total for a very low price). All 4 are said to come from Morocco, but the seller didn't say the exact location. But I suppose that they are either from Kem Kem or Khouribga. Anyways I would just like your opinion on them (what species, 100% original or slightly reconstructed, anything I could do to "improve" them, etc). Thanks in advance! Can this be a spinosaurus sacrum?

I found this fossil online a few days ago and might be interested in buying it. But I don't know much about the spinosaurus, I just have good knowledge when it comes to the teeth. It is said to be the sacrum of a spinosaurus, it is 13,77 inches (or 35 centimeters). 95 million years old and was found in southern marocco, in the sahara desert. Could it be a spinosaurus sacrum from a small individual or what else could it be?

Up for sale on everyone's favorite auction website is the following while it doesn't look fake I am very cautious about buying anything from the site when it comes to fossil remains. I'm guessing the usual suspects troodon and lordtrilobite can help me

Looking for Kem Kem foot/toe bones and claws - need your help!

Hi For some time, I am working on a composite of a juvenile Spinosaurus foot. Currently, it is about 65% complete. Finding bones that are a good match in terms of size/geometry is quite tricky. More specifically, I am looking for the following Spinosaurus material that comes from the Kem Kem beds in Morocco: - 3 phalanges with a length between 50mm and 70mm (2 inch to 2.75 inch)- One foot claw with a length of about 70mm to 90mm (2.75 inch to 3.5 inch) - The metatarsal at the backside of the foot (digit I), about 60mm long (2.4 inch) - The reduced digit V, about 90mm long (3.5 inch) In return, I can offer interesting dinosaur material from the Cretaceous and Jurrasic including teeth, metatarsals, vertebrae etc. I know that this request is probably a long shot. However, I noticed that there are several more fossil enthusiasts who collect material from the Kem Kem. Maybe you can help me with that. -

I don't know much (well, anything) about dinosaurs (I mostly just deal with trilobites) but I came across this and it looks fairly interesting, and the price is right for an impulse buy. What do you all think of it? It's from Kem Kem. It's 3.4 inches in length.

Hi everybody, I'm a fossil freak from Germany and while all kind of fossils are fascinating to me, my main focus is on vertebrates. Since a while I'm looking for a nice, large Spinosaur tooth and just found an attractive looking one on an auction site. The seller mentions a repair near the tip. I guess it's the reddish, smooth part which is visible on the first photo. I could just deal with that if the rest of the tooth would be fine. Are there any other repairs or restorations, what do you guy think? Thanks for your opinion!

I purchased this Spinosaurus Moroccanus tooth off eBay and I wanted to see if it is authentic. Here are the measurements: Length: 1.50" Width: 0.33" Depth: 0.33" Here are my questions. First, is this tooth authentic? Secondly, given the size, is it a baby dino tooth? What's with the colorful blotches on the top middle of the tooth? Does this bone have any roots on it or is the whole bone the tooth? Sorry, I don't know much about dino teeth and I hope some of you can help me. Thanks for your time....I really appreciate it =)

Dubious Kem Kem 'Spinosaurus' Tooth

Hi, I've noticed a lot of talk about the different issues with theropod teeth that originate from the Kem Kem beds on this board, and it reminded me that I had a 'Spinosaurus' tooth in my collection. I bought it when I was a kid, and obviously didn't question it's legitimacy or ID in any way. But now that I'm older and have a lot more experience I noticed some features of the tooth that I find slightly dubious. Firstly is the size, it's small, only around 3cm which doesn't compare to some of the enormous teeth in the dentition of Spinosaurus that I've seen. Secondly is the presence of sandy matrix material around the base of the crown which as I've read on here can indicate restoration, and to me looks quite strange. I was wondering if anyone could help confirm if the tooth does appear to be from a Spinosaurid and whether or not it has been restored/composited in anyway. Thanks, Theo

Hi guys! I'm completely new to fossils and wanted to buy my sister a tooth. I found a cheap spino tooth listed as having a couple repairs, no restorations and decided to buy her one for her birthday. It just came in and looks pretty good to me, but thought I should ask about it here just to get a bit more information about it. Does it look like a single tooth or different teeth glued together? It looks like it was glued together but I cant tell much more than that. I would greatly appreciate any help!

I am newbie to this so I would just like some assurance that these are in fact real or fakes. Any comments would be much appreciated. The biggest one is about 2 1/5 inches. Analyzing a Kem Kem Vertebra

I was browsing the Internet and saw this vertebra for sale from my favorite locality the Kem Kem Beds. It's a good example of how the Moroccan's composite a dinosaur vertebra so I decided to post it. Here is the specimen and from a distance it looks acceptable. The centrum looks very nice and possibly a nice addition to a collection. Unfortunately after closer inspection everything else is questionable and red flags are raised. . Matrix fills the gap between the centrum and processes on both sides. Best conclusion is that all of the processes have been composited to the centrum. Is it possible that the processes belong to the centrum? Sure that's possible but another red flag is this bone. It looks nothing like an articulating process should look like and appears to be a peice bone that has been added to appear like one. Or are they adding it to be the neural spine which raises even more flags since the broken edges of one is already there. This vertebra is being sold as a Spinosaurus so it's always good practice to do a Google search and familiarize yourself with one. Scott Hartman's sketal drawings can be a good source. http://www.skeletaldrawing.com/ Not from Scott but here is an image of a dorsal vertebrae from a Spinosaurus. Compare it to the centrum in above specimen and draw your own conclusion. Identifying isolated vertebrae to a specific species from any locality is difficult enough. Identifying isolated centrums to a species is close to impossible especially from the Kem Kem. Comparative bones, images are just not available. Best to purchase a specimen because you like it and maybe someday it can be identified. For new collectors to the hobby always be cautious when you see matrix attached to a Kem Kem fossil. Tips for methods of checking Spinosaurid jawbone for legitimacy?

I am examining a labial section of the maxilla with 6 alveoli, it breaks off at the anterior fenestra, includes a part of the antorbital fossa, and also a part of the external naris. It's from Morocco, the Kem Kems more specifically, and that's the most information I've got on its origin, unfortunately. It's quite heavy -- dense, more specifically -- and it seems to match up as Spinosaurine anatomically. It comes with unoriginal teeth which I'm going to most likely remove in order to check for adhesives to make sure they're not original by shining it under UV light. What are some other ways to test for signs of artificial tampering with the fossil? Is there anything I should look out for in particular? I'd prefer not to attach pictures as I do not own the bone. Edit: Additionally, the bone has a rather shiny appearance, almost a translucence. I was wondering if this was the result of polishing? It is orange-red-brown, which seems to match up with the iron oxide found in the Kem Kem formation. -

Hi Everyone, I'm in search of fossil display stands similar to the one shown below. These stands will be used to display a couple of my larger teeth (One of them being a large Spino tooth similar to the one below). Currently I keep my smaller teeth in Riker mounts, but I want to do something a little different for the larger ones. Does anyone know where I can find similar stands? If these stands are only custom made does anyone have any other suggestions for ways to display large theropod teeth? Thanks as always!

Today I decided to drive 60 miles to a local auction house, as it was their last auction of the year. I spotted a large riker mount containing 20 Spinosaurus teeth and I was able to be the highest bidder at $80.00, not too bad.

I found this tooth in a box full of Spinosaurus teeth for sale at the Denver Gem and Mineral Show. Noticed it was curved and has small serrations under a loop so doubted that it was Spinosaurus so I bought it. It comes from a dealer/digger well known to me from Morocco. When I pointed this one out to him he agreed it wasn't from a spino, thought maybe crocodile. What do you guys think?

We think this is Spinosaurus. location of find Kem Kem beds, or Tegana formation, the Continental Red beds of Kem Kem, south of Taouz in the S. E. Morocco. Looking to identify this anatomically and specie wise. Any ideas?

Black versus white mimiature dolls stands for vertical display of Dinoteeth

This is a 4.6 inch Spinosaurus tooth displayed vertically with miniature doll stands (black versus white). I got the idea from AJ Plai who is another member on here and I really liked his custom made vertical display stands for his Dinoteeth. I decided to try miniature doll display stands. At first I could only find white at a local hobby store but recently I found black stands online. I thought it might be helpful to show both for comparison in case others out there are interested in this type of display. Personally, I like the black color better. Also, with both stands, the arms/claspers are bendable and I find you can kind of custom bend the arms to the dimension that works for the tooth. I will have a few more Dinoteeth later in December and I will post a photo will all teeth displayed like this. thanks for looking.
