After my visit last week (http://www.thefossilforum.com/index.php?/topic/86063-my-little-trip-to-solnhofen/) This time I was at the visitor quarry in Solnhofen. It was very hard work and it was too hot but the finds arent too bad Its a pity that I couldnt find a fish but nevertheless I found some interesting things! Two pictures of the quarry: A beautiful 4 cm long Laevaptychus: A cuttlefish remain: with nice details (6 cm long): And my finds of the day: Two teeth Teeth arent that common in Solnhofen I assume, so I must had some serious luck The first one is 1.5 cm long and it seems to be a crocodile tooth. I think its a Steneosaurus tooth: I like the root The second isnt that big with a length of 0.7 cm. I cant determine this one... Maybe also a crocodile tooth? Maybe someone can help me a bit with determining? Thanks for your help! Hope you enjoyed the pictures!

A new fossil crocodylomorph-related paper is now available online: Johnson, M. M., Young, M. T., and Brusatte, S. L. (2020). Emptying the wastebasket: a historical and taxonomic revision of the Jurassic crocodylomorph Steneosaurus. Zoological Journal of the Linnean Society 189 (2): 428–448. https://doi.org/10.1093%2Fzoolinnean%2Fzlaa027 Michela Johnson and colleagues restrict Steneosaurus to the type species S. rostromajor, and make the teleosauroid snout MNHN 8900 the S. rostromajor lectotype (the skull fragment MNHN 8753 was later recognized as belonging to the metriorhynchid Metriorhynchus superciliosus) and they correctly recognize, as I had tacitly noticed, that Eudes-Deslongchamps (1867-1869) made an error in declaring that the Bathonian-age teleosauroid 'Steneosaurus' megistorhynchus best fulfilled the function of Steneosaurus type species not knowing that megistorhynchus was not an originally included nominal species of Steneosaurus. A Ph.D thesis written by Johnson last year regarding teleosauroids is available at this link: https://era.ed.ac.uk/handle/1842/36656 (Chapter 4 of the thesis by Johnson resurrects Macrospondylus for S. bollensis from the Toarcian of Europe and coins new genera for several taxa placed in Steneosaurus while revalidating Aeolodon and Sericodon, but I wouldn't disclose the names of the new genera until Chapter 4 is published, because doing so would be tantamount to stealing my thunder) In any case, Johnson and colleagues at long last figured out the concept of what the original Steneosaurus is, and given that Bathysuchus, Aeolodon, and Sericodon are much younger than the Steneosaurus type species, whereas Macrospondylus and a few other Early Jurassic teleosauroids are much older than rostromajor, it is apparent that the past assignment of many teleosauroid species to Steneosaurus is a historical accident and not reflective of biology reality, because Lemmysuchus is closer to Machimosaurus than to Steneosaurus or 'S.' edwardsi.

Hey everyone! I'm currently looking for any teeth from the Oxford Clay, especially those of plesiosaurs and teleosauroid crocs. In exchange, I can offer a variety of crocodile teeth from the Jurassic Tiourarén Formation of Niger like (but not limited to) the ones below.

Greetings! I am glad to be here. I work with living crocodilians and have a growing interest in their ancestors, specifically the Crocodylomorphs (I often just call them "crocs" when in the Paleo context). I have a small, but growing collection of fossils. I'm interested in learning of others' "croc" fossil finds, knowledge and experience, and to share mine, as well. I have been since I was a child in awe of these remarkable Archosaur-line reptiles that survived the dinosaur extinction event and swim in my backyard today. I enjoyed browsing the photos and threads related to "crocs" and look forward to my experiences here. Thanks for having me, and thank you to the founders and moderators/administrators of this fine forum.

Last Sunday I was for about 6 hours in the quarry Kromer (Lower Jurassic) near Holzmaden (Germany) and I was kinda successful there. Besides several teeth I found a beautiful piece with croc bones. At first only a cross section of a bone was visible but during the preparation some more bones got visible. I am not finished yet but I prepped about 4 hours until now. This is a picture of the unprepped stone: And after 1.5 hours: I will post a picture of the current state today... I am very excited about this find because crocodile material is much rarer than Ichthyosaur material in Holzmaden. And I never found such a croc bone until now. I am really not sure what type of bone it is. Maybe from the pelvis or from the shoulder?

Last Saturday I was in the quarry Kromer (Posidonia Shale, Lower Jurassic) for the first time of the year. Maybe some of you already noticed this topic: http://www.thefossilforum.com/index.php?/topic/93302-prepping-a-plate-with-some-ichthyosaur-vertebrae/ Beside of this plate I also found some other cool things but firstly here is a picture of the quarry: You are allowed to search in the heaps on the left behind the white car. The material isn't that bad at the moment. I was there about 6 hours and I found about 6 teeth. I already prepped three Stenosaurus (crocodile) teeth: 1 cm long: 1.8 cm long: (the best one) And 1.2 cm long: (damaged) I also found this fish: The cross section is about 5 cm long and it will need very much prep work... I don't think that I will do this one in the near future although a friend and expert said that this is a kinda nice find! My favourite finds were the bones. I found several incomplete ones which I didn't take home but also the plate with the vertebrae and another plate with some bones on it. Here is a picture of one of the visible bones: I think that should be an Ichthyosaur Humerus but I am not entire sure. I will post some more pictures of it tomorrow and after the prep. There are also a couple of ribs on the plate so it could be interesting! And for all the invertebrate fans. Here is a sweet little ammonite: Thanks for watching!!

Recently you could find "many" bones and teeth in a "Bonebed" in a quarry near Buttenheim in Germany. Too bad I was a bit too late to search in this Bonebed. As I was there it was still possible to find something but the layer was buried under about 1 meter dirt. So I couldn't really find something there. All bones and teeth come from the Toarcian. This thread of @Kasia inspired me to buy some teeth and bones from there too. So thank you for the inspiration Here are my acquirements: I bought three Steneosaurus (crocodile) teeth: The first one is about 1. 3 cm long: Detailed: The next one is a big one with a length of 2 cm. This one was found in Altdorf: The last one is damaged and small (0.8 cm long) Beside of these Croc teeth I also bought some Ichthyosaur material from there: A 1.1 cm long tooth which could be quite nice if someone didn't glued it that bad... I am not sure what I will do with this one because there seems to be another tooth in the matrix and I will maybe try to break it and glue it a bit better. Too bad the teeth are extremely fragile so I am not sure what I will do... And another small Ichthyosaur tooth with a length of 0.6 cm: And last but not least three small Ichthyosaur vertebrae: All three are a bit bigger than 2 cm. All in all I have to say that I am quite satisfied with my purchase expecially because I didn't had to pay too much money for them. Thanks for viewing

Does anyone know if toys/models of Steneosaurus (the slender-bodied longirostral Jurassic teleosaurid crocodyliform often found in Europe and the UK) exist? I'd like to get one if I can.
