I was pleased to be the winning bidder on this unprepped Knightia in a rolling auction by @Meganeura this past August. Thank you, Daniel. it was quite generous of you to offer it, along with all your other fine items. I was in no hurry to complete the prep and greatly enjoyed spending an hour with it now and then, or even a quarter- hour as it sat patiently on my kitchen table. While I envy our members with air-abrasion setups, I do appreciate the quiet convenience of pecking away at the Green River matrix whenever the spirit moves me. I began work on the skull soon after I opened the auction package from Daniel and soon found a lovely coprolite has been sitting on the fish's head for the past fifty million years or so. I'm afraid I found it rather amusing, and while the poor animal might find my attitude besmirching to its honor and an added insult to its injury, I decided to leave the attachment right where I found it. Not surprisingly, I found more fossil fish dung as I progresssed, and I've left them as found as well. I did uncover a small mass of fish bones near the top of the rectangular block, sliced by the trimming saw and mostly unrecognizable by me. I'm tempted to keep digging away at the block to see what else might be hiding there, but I'll probably just leave it as it is and move on to another awaiting project. It's not one of my best prep jobs but I'm satisfied with it and appreciate it as a snapshot of a moment in time.

Where to find some unprep’d trilobites? Starter prep setup widsom?
NoahW24 posted a topic in Fossil Preparation
Hi All! I wanted to see if anyone had advice on where a person might be able to track down some unprepared trilobites on the internet for prep practice? I’m trying to put together a little in-home setup for the winter, but work has been pretty busy and my field time may be limited for finding bugs to liberate from their shaley sleeping bags. Any advice on a starter prep setup would also be greatly appreciated! I’m still working on scraping (ha ha) together a budget for an air-scribe setup… are there any alternative options for slightly rougher but acceptable fossil prep in the meantime, after which I can leave the fine details to an airscribe? Thanks! Noah- 5 replies

I'm looking at purchasing another Keichousaurus for preparation, and wondering what the experts' opinions are on which of these two would be easier to prep for a relative beginner like me. The first one looks entirely covered in shale, and the second seems to be a little more exposed. I have my Paasche air eraser that I was planning on using, although if someone recommends an acetic acid prep over the air abrasive for these specimens for one reason or another, I would love to hear suggestions. If the second one is more likely to be incomplete/damaged than the one under rock, I would prefer to stay away from that. But that being said, if it would truly be easier to work with the one that is already partially exposed, I am all for that!

Looking for unprepped or lightly prepped drotops or other big Moroccan trilobites
mattbsharks posted a topic in Member-to-Member Fossil Trades
I am looking for hopefully complete or near complete drotops, and other large Moroccan trilobites. In exchange I have lots of stuff, shark teeth from all over, ammonites from Europe etc. please message me if you’re interested -
Wasn't 100% certain where to put this, so I figured Q&A was as good a place as any. Does anyone here have access to legit Moroccan trilobite material? Specifically unprepped? Ironically enough, I would actually be more interested in incomplete bugs than guaranteed complete ones. I have never prepped any material from Morocco and would really like to take a crack at it. In a perfect world, someone out there has a source and imports flats of quality material and happens to have a pile of "discards" laying around that they would consider parting with on the cheap. I'm on a budget as I'm trying to upgrade equipment, AGAIN! For reasons that are likely obvious to anyone who is into trilobites, I am super interested in getting my hands on some of the gnarly, spiny species out there. But simply purchasing a display piece lacks the romance of having cried over breaking off spines accidentally during prep! I would do unspeakable things for a Walliserops or Comura cephalon, (or something like that.) Alternatively, I would also be interested in similar bits from Black Cat like Dicranurus. Thanks in advance guys! I know it's a tall order, but it can't ever hurt to ask, right?
