It's four inches x three and about a inch thick. Of course I think it's beautiful. I want to cut it long ways and expose the middle. I've always loved rocks and fossils. I'm just now becoming a hounder..lol Any help identifying this is greatly appreciated.

... It looks like it, but I found it in Western Massachusetts, and I didn’t think we had any here? There’s two different pieces. One is much bigger and kind of looks like a leg of lamb or something. there is an edge on it that’s kind of grayish and feels like wood, almost like that part of the wood hardened but didn’t change color or anything. the other piece is a little smaller than my palm & has more obvious banding.

I was very lucky to go with the Esconi fossil club this May to collect Mason Creek concretions. I want to thank every member of that club for help and friendliness to a stranger. I brought back a number of concretions. This one certainly has something in it, but it is not complete and I have no idea what it is ( or isnt). All help and suggestions will be greatly appreciated

Yesterday I was up early to look for fossils in the Vaalser Greensand (The Formation of Vaals or Vaalser Groenzand is a geological formation from the last Late Cretaceous). Fossils from the Vaals green sand are sparsely distributed, and yet it is extraordinarily rich in fossils. I had read some time ago that you can go to Boundary 7 for these kinds of fossils. Mineral and fossil collectors prefer to speak of the 'Cucullaea bank' of post 7. The post is located exactly at the source of the "Kothauzerbach". In total, in this jungle-like area (I'm really covered in scratches), there are three springs. The cause is obvious; Precipitation water seeps through the overlying sand of the hills, but is forced to surface on the border of the water-retaining Vaals green sand. Here I found several pieces from which the following fossils remained. Now my question, is this fossil wood? I didn't even have to dig myself. The badgers in this area had neatly laid out the fossils outside their burrows through their graves. What do you think this is? It is very difficult to feel the boundary between the Limestone and the harder layer. I tried to expose it as much as possible with a toothbrush. I would love your opinion! En wanneer ik het verder schoonmaak zien we dit. Echter zeer moeilijk, het fossiel lost snel op met het kalkgesteente: And abother big piece:

Hi there! I found this here in Central Ohio a few years ago. It's a fairly light rock. As you can see from the photos, it has a few different things going on with it (at least it seems they're separate but perhaps not?). I've searched quite a bit to try and figure out what this is. It appears to be the end of a tree branch or something but I can't seem to find anything that matches up with it so I'm hopeful you lovely people can assist! Thank you!

I’m completely clueless when it comes to fossils of any kind. I’m just wondering if this is possibly a bone or petrified wood. It’s heavy and feels more like stone than anything else. It was found in Alberta near Edmonton. Thanks

While on vacation in Utah USA, a family member bought some fossils in a shop that were supposed to be petrified wood. Unfortunately, she has not received any further information with the documents. Is there anything more to say about these pieces? Or is this something else? They go to a primary school when it comes to wood material so any bit of information would be nice for the kids. Scale in centimeters.

Greetings Masters What an unbelievable forum here. I found this during my walk on the beach, difficult for me to determine if it is a simple rock, a petrified wood or a petrified bone. Please find the pictures (scale in cm). Thank you everybody. Octave

I found this with belemnites, and some ammonites, on a walk through my usual Cretaceous. The first piece at first glance seemed like wood, but it is surely geological. the last photos if I'm not mistaken, are some kind of cretaceous orbitolin. (I found them all in 2 square meters)

Here is a partial fossil, the identity of which eludes me. It was found in a pond excavation in Bradenton, Florida. At first, a piece of mammoth tooth came to mind, but the end, full of holes reminds me of wood instead. Thanks for looking!

Today after work, I went to a new-to-me site in Iowa City. I had seen an old online pamphlet walking tour of the geology of the University campus. They listed a site they described as Pennsylvanian sandstone/siltstone in which they said there may be impressions of wood fossils. Here’s a piece I found: It’s very fragile, so I’ve only done some very light cleaning with a soft brush. Here’s a closer image: Here’s an even closer image where you can really see the grain. Am I right in seeing wood here?

I found this fossil on our property in Puriscal, Costa Rica. I found it on the ground after moving some dirt from the berm next to a ditch. This ditch was dug by hand for us several years ago. The previous owner backhoed this area to flatten it. but couldn't go any farther due to the enormous rock. I am posting here because I want opinions if this is petrified wood, or bone. It measures about 10cm long, diameter about 8cm. There is a crystal formation on one end.

Hello everybody! I have another U.F.O here (Unidentified Florissant Object) and to be honest, this one has really stumped me! It isn't a carbon stain, it isn't one of those pumice chunks 'fireballs' that are common at Florissant, and it has a strange texture and shape. Weirdly preserved petrified wood? That is my best guess as of now... @piranha @Top Trilo @Tetradium The fossil is 1/2 an inch long. The first 2 pictures are the fossil by itself and the third I circled it. The rest are microscope pics of the texture. Pics 5,6, and 9 show the edges. 7 shows the top.

Found this in a gravel deposit on the Brazos River. I'm totally new to this, but I think it's a tooth. Measures 2 1/2" × 1 3/8". Thoughts? EDIT *Sorry if this posted to the wrong place.

This is the most incredible piece of amber ever found. its so unbelievable, that nobody takes me serious when i post images of it anywhere. Facebook groups delete it and block me for posting fake fossils. its still attached to about a foot and a half of the original tree that the sap was secreted from. that in itself is very rare and one of a kind. this part that is wood, has high magnetic attraction. the fact that its included with creatures that have never been identified before, neither in amber or out is another unbelievable aspect of this piece. notice the two creatures in blue. both were stuck on the outer most layer of the sap. with only a very thin layer of amber covering their bodies. notice how high above the surface of the amber this dinosaur looking creature got stuck. then, look at the detail of its face... the two images in blue were taken under UV light. this piece was found in north baja mexico. all of the images of creatures oin this post can be found inside this one piece of amber. nothing has been altered or added, only the one photo of the turtle has the red filtered out so that the image of the turtle can be singled out. where can i take this to get documentation authenticating that its real??? open each image to see the complete images. also if your skeptical about the inclusions or the authenticity of this peace, pm me so i can send you a video of the turtle trapped in the middle of this thick chunk of amber. thanks. shawn

Picked this up from the Peace River last week. Started to toss it to the bank thinking - another piece of dugong - then I noticed striations on all sides and both ends. They don't appear to be cross - hatch (Schreger-Patterns) but raised my curiosity to a level that made me keep it in the hopes of an ID. The lines are hard to see in the photos but are dashes (- - - - - - ) in most cases and sometimes form a vee pattern. Any input would be appreciated.
