Hello everyone, I would like to start with fossil preparation using airscribe/pen, I have a few tricky fossils that need that kind of cleaning method. However, I’d rather spent my money on fossils than tools so I am looking for cheapest possible set up available. Saw an example of Paleotech tools, is that the only thing available for this? Any ideas anyone?

First real run with my new setup. Prepped out my Priscacara today. Was a bit disappointed the spikes were not spread out and the tail seems to have been damaged before it was buried. Very impressed with the powered iron. Working in the harder 18" layer stuff it seemed that ~50-60psi was good. Moving to the soft split layer stuff less than 10psi was more than sufficient. Collecting and reusing the iron is simple. Just use a magnet then filter it, stick it back into the problast. The cabinet wasn't ideal, but I realized that an adjustable laptop stand would fit right inside and hold the specimen in just the right spot. Worked like a charm. All in all, pretty satisfied with this setup. I have a few fish left to prep out, need to get my hands on some more.

Looking for recommendations on 1 air tool to buy for softish shales and limestone
mattbsharks posted a topic in Fossil Preparation
I am looking to spend around $250-350 total on an air compressor and one air tool well equipped to prep both green river formation limestone and softish shales like penn Dixie/dsr. I understand that no one tool would be perfect for that, but I want to find one that can do both jobs solidly.- 13 replies
