I found this handsome mystery in a Central Illinois creekbed. While I think it could be a sponge, it doesn't resemble any that I'm already familiar with. I wonder if it could be Brooksella Alternata, however that seems unlikely due to it coming from Illinois and not further south. I'm stumped, but beyond curious. Any input would be a dream. 20240219_214229.mp4

Hello ! I bought this at a Flea Market in California years ago for a dollar. It was in a box of rocks and Geodes. I recently got a rock ID App & this one keeps returning as Opal. It’s got a good weight to it so I figured it’s a Geode. But I once saw a fossilized egg that had the same odd Conical edge to it & now I’m wondering if it’s an egg of some sort. The exterior has an interesting texture to it. The inside of the exterior has golden bits that look like Amber almost. Is there such a thing as Fossilized Egg Whites? Thanks for any info . Gratitude, FrankB

I found a small shell fossil on a piece and there seems to be other fossil imprints that have sadly wore away. I was wondering however, if I should try and break it open. Being such a minute find, it's not a huge deal if it is lost, but I am also new to this and don't know how likely it would be to find more fossils within. Note 01: The shell mold is very faint in the image and more pronounced in person. Seen on image No. 01. Note 02: There seems - to me - to be a fold or seam in the rock that would seem to make it easier to split with a chisel. Seen on image No. 01, on the bottom right. Note 03: There are crystalline elements on the surface, much like small quartz formations or granite particulate, possible suggesting a geode? .

I found this while I was doing some recon on some Salem-Warsaw limestones a day ago. Every other chunk of quartz I stumbled upon looked like your typical oddball sphere of quartz crystal, nothing special. This one's shape and appearance were pretty unique. I almost see the resemblance of a calyx. Is this geodized quartz as well, and why the odd shape? Side view Side view Side view Bottom side Topside Thanks for the input, Jackson
