Well, June has arrived - half the year nearly gone! Where does the time go. Once again, the staff has come together, and unanimously voted for that member who shows fellowship, helpfulness, a welcoming attitude, and in this case, a deep knowledge of his local collecting locales. This months Member of the Month is: JEFFREY P!!! Jeffrey has been a member since August of 2013, and in that time has shown himself to be an outstanding member of the Forum Community. Always helpful, kind, knowledgeable, and a connoisseur of all types of fossils. If you have ever hunted with Jeff, as I have, you will know him for his generous, kind demeanor, his willingness to hunt nearly anywhere in the world, and to collect any type of fossil, from the lowly worm tube in the Jersey Brooks, to ammonites in Germany or New Mexico. He is also one of the key organizers/coordinators of Group Fossil Forum Meet Ups in the North Eastern USA! (Not to mention, very knowledgeable about his nearby localities!) Jeff's galleries of his finds, divided by time period, help to serve as a guide to the fossils of any of the locations he has hunted. Always pleasant and accommodating, Jeff is more than deserving of this award. Jeff, Thanks for all you do here on the Forum. Congratulations, good sir. Care to talk about your fossil journey to the Forum, Jeff?

The astounding finds of this Forum's members continually amaze me - It seems as if the voting choices get a bit harder, every month. Please take the time to post your best find or finds of the current month here, where they will be voted upon by the rest of the membership! Good luck, and Happy Hunting! Remember...carefully read the rules below, make sure you include all the required information, and submit your fossil! If you have a question about a possible entry, please send me a PM. Please pay special attention to Rule #5: Before and After Preparation photos must be submitted for Prepped specimens not found during the Month of the Contest. In addition to keeping the contest fair, this new qualification will encourage better documentation of our spectacular past finds. Best of success to all, and good hunting! Entries will be taken until midnight on June 30th. Please let us know if you have any questions, and thanks for sharing more of your fossils and research this month. To view the Winning Fossils from past contests visit the Find Of The Month Winner's Gallery. ____________________________________________________________________________________ Rules for The Fossil Forum's Vertebrate and Invertebrate/Plant Find of the Month Contests 1. You find a great Vertebrate Fossil or Invertebrate/Plant Fossil! Only fossils found by you. 2. Post your entry in the Find of the Month topic. Use a separate post for each entry. (Only two entries per contest category.) 3. Your Fossil must have been found during the Month of the Contest, or most of the significant Preparation of your Fossil must have been completed during the Month of the Contest. 4. You must include the Date of your Discovery (when found in the contest month); or the Date of Preparation Completion and Discovery date (if not found in the contest month). 5. Before and After Preparation photos must be submitted for prepped specimens not found during the Month of the Contest. 6. You must include the common or scientific name. 7. You must include the Geologic Age or Geologic Formation where the Fossil was found. 8. You must include the State, Province, or region where the Fossil was found. 9. Play fair and honest. No bought fossils. No false claims. Shortly after the end of the Month, separate Polls will be created for the Vertebrate and Invertebrate/Plant Find of the Month. In addition to the fun of a contest, we also want to learn more about the fossils. So, only entries posted with a CLEAR photo and that meet the other guidelines will be placed into the Poll. Photos of the winning specimens may be posted to TFF's Facebook page. In a few days, after the votes are tallied, and the Polls for both categories are closed, we will know the two winning Finds of the Month for May, 2017 ! Now, go find your fossil, do your research, and make an entry!

Hello FossilForumers- I want to let you all know that in June we will be hosting the 23rd annual Tate Conference. The theme this year is "High Tech and Old Bones". We have speakers from all over the USA speaking on all sorts of cool technologies they are using with fossils. Dr. Mary Schweitzer will be speaking on soft tissues in T rex as Keynote Speaker. We have talks on all sorts of topics from 3d printing to laser flourescence, to paleorobotics, and more. There will be two days of field trips. The first day is into the White River Formation near Douglas, Wyoming. The second field trip will be to Medicine Bow. We will do a historic tour of the Como Bluff area... not much collecting, then do a collecting trip to a Cretaceous ammonite site nearby (Cenomanian/Turonian Frontier Formation). The cost is 145 bucks for the conference only, and each field trip is 40 dollars. Space on field trips is reserved for people who also attend the conference. The conference is on June 2-4, 2017. Details and registration is available at: http://www.caspercollege.edu/tate-geological-museum/events/conference I hope to see a few Forum folks show up. This conference is always a lot of fun. I hear that from participants; I am too busy organizing and running around like a chicken with my head cut off. Feel free to ask me about details.
