I’m unsure what the small growths are on this brachiopod. It seems that most of the specimens I have of this species have these. Wondering if they are possibly ostracods or something else. ( I will add photos with a size reference as well as magnification shortly. It’s approximately 1.5 inches across) This one was found in the middle Devonian wanakah shale in a small exposure at Penndixie just outside Hamburg NY.

I went to Penndixie to kill a couple hours and to my surprise laying on the ground was what is been confirmed by a few people as the left inferognathal of a placoderm. Most likely some sort of dunkleostus spc. Honestly my best find to date from that site as well as my first piece of fish from Penndixie.

With 2020 over with its now a good time to look back at the year. It was a decent year for fossils. I explored many new spots and was able to meet many new people, 6 feet apart of course. With the diagnosis of tendinitis i was not able to dig much this year but i was able to make the most of it. The first thing found since my last post was this epic bryozoan colony. It came out of the very top of the Wanakah shale and weighs almost 8 pounds. Im unsure of species but I think its pretty cool

I have not been active much in the past 6 months but I have not stopped digging. I probably have too many pictures to put in this one post so I’ll split them up. The embarrassing part of this is if actually took me 15 minutes to figure out how to post again.

I posted this under member introductions on accident but today me and Devoniandigger got to dig for the first time this year. I had an ok day pulling out 9 rollers and a prone eldredgeops and Devoniandigger walked out with countless rollers, a double with a prone and a roller, and a triple with 2 prones and a roller. All in all great day at the site.

Planning A Penn Dixie Trip, How Do I Store And Prep Trilobites?
TMadam posted a topic in Fossil Hunting Trips
I am planning a second trip to Penndixie, first one was over 10 years ago. On my first trip I did a poor job of storing the specimens for the ride home and so several got broken (I forgot these are old as antiques). How do you store materials you find on site? I was thinking giant Tupperware container with rows of bubble wrap. I read about using Elmers glue as a stabilizer, should I buy paleobond or a stabilizing compound? My goal is to take my three sons, dig around in the dirt, and find something for the kids to put in a shadow box. Thank you, Adam
