I found a tarrant formation exposure along the trinity river, a scenic little spot that I was happy to find. In addition to my seemingly usual haul of conlinoceras ammonites (on the smaller side this time), I found a couple of neat little gastropods, gyrodes petrosa. One of them has had its shell replaced with calcite, making for a really shiny/reflective appearance. I also found a piece of petrified wood with sand still stuck to one side. I’m always amazed that we can find these ancient artifacts and we even know which side was touching the ground as it was fossilized for so long (if I’m interpreting the condition correctly). One pic shows an ammonite exactly as I found it, shouting to me “please adopt me and take me home to a warm bed!” Dallas county, this weekend.

I found this heavy, dark bone on a gravel bar along the trinity river in western Dallas County Texas. Any ideas? This little calcite-like pebble occupied the hole visible on one end. I have not performed any burn tests, litmus tests, multiple choice tests, or otherwise. I measured it, 9” long almost exactly. Roughly 1.25” wide near the center measuring across the side with the dip. Thanks in advance!

Hello! My brother found these on the Trinity River near the Lake Livingston dam. They seem to be more like iron or hematite concretions, but we aren't sure. They aren't magnetic, but he said they aren't very heavy either. We haven't done the streak test yet. Any information is greatly appreciated!

In the few trips made to Trinity river in Tarrant county I've spotted several peices of these large whorls, I'm wondering if these are from Mariella ammonites or a heteromorph? I have found some pretty big Mariellas in Grayson marl but nothing close to this size. Is that maybe where they originate?, is the Trinity cutting through that formation? I'd love to figure that out and try to find a more complete one.

This was my first trip to Trinity river in Tarrant co., this section was close to borders of QT and QAL and didn't know what to expect. I certainly didn't expect to lift up rock and find a Nautiloid/Nautilus still soft in the marl. Have no idea what the marl was or how to determine age of this. Only prepped it a little afraid to mess it up. Tooth from same place and hesitant to call it bison since they're always bovid.

Today Dale and I visited a spot on the Trinity with Eagle Ford shale exposure, haven't been there in a while and there were some new discoveries, from left to right, an ammonite? Hopefully then a bit of lobster tail? Lastly I think this is what's left of a crab, but thrown off by what looks like sutures and the overall shape is like a comma, ? And the pics are backwards, don't know why.

I found this on a sandy river bank on the Trinity River near Liberty Texas. I have previously found a number of teeth and leg bones from pleistocene horses in the same area. This is a fascinating little piece but I have no idea as to its identity. Maybe an inner ear bone? Any help would be appreciated. Maybe it is just a piece of wood, there are a lot of pieces of petrified wood here, but I don't think so. Thanks, Craig

Found this on the Elm fork of Trinity river bank, Cretaceous Alluvium. I have found clams, baculites, ammonites and crabs there. This slightly resembles a piece of baculite, size suggests clam burrow. Appreciate an ID!

I found this rock when walking near the Trinity River in Dallas, TX. It could have been brought in with gravel used to make a trail, since I found it by a trail. It's probably just a concretion, but the patterns are interesting! Anyone know what it is? Thanks!
