Hi everybody, I am looking for some identification assistance, hopefully somebody here can point me in the right direction. I will let the pictures do the talking. Most fossil bearing shale here is devonian era, this was found washed up so I can't properly date it. It was found in buffalo, NY. I looked at it under a microscope, and my conclusion from that was, I have no idea what I'm doing. Any information or help would be appreciated. The part that looks like bone is pourous, it is a very heavy piece for the size.

Hello, I found this forum a few weeks ago while searching for information on fossils. It seems like a very informative and friendly place so I joined today. My name is Paul, I live in Oswego, NY (N/W of Syracuse, NY), I'm 50 years-old and am extremely new to fossils and fossil hunting. My family and I will be making our first fossil hunting trip this Saturday to either Tully, NY or Schoharie, NY (I still haven't decided on the location).

I have heard about placoderms being uncovered from the Devonian of Ohio, but am unable to find any references to specific placoderm fossil specimens and where they are in Ohio. Can someone please shed some light for me on the subject? (I'm looking for ones just from the Ohio area ) I consider placoderms awesome! Thanks a ton!
