Hi, I saw this odd looking skull for sale. Labelled as Psitacco, but parts of it don't match Psitacco--the stretched beak and the eyes. Is it a different species, or is it looking odd purely because it got squashed during fossilisation? 7.5 inches long.

Hello everybody. Does anyone know if this is raptor or other dinosaur? It is from Yixian. Lujiatun Bed. The entire piece is 15cm x 7 cm. The claws are 2cm. Thank you for help. Hope photos are ok.

Is anyone able to help with this bird skull from Yixian? The skull I think is twisted upside down. With its eyesocket at the bottom. Also is that bits of feather? Does anyone recognise which species? I do not think confusciornis as they are rounded on the top. Plus, the crest near the feather isnt presant on confusciornis--if it is a type of crest. But if I have the skull orietated right, the crest is on its lower jaw?

Hello, any thoughts on this? It is a slab measuring 12 cm x 9 cm with three partial limbs/foot fossils on. The largest foot measures 4 cm, then the longer limb bone heading right 5 cm. At first I thought it could be a frog--but the circled, possible partial dew claw throws me. I am not aware of frogs having a dew claw. Which makes me think it's a type of bird. Hope the pics are ok--seller (doesnt have the fossil on hand) is gonna try and get more, but the collector is away. It is from China --Jehol Biota, JianChang,

Hello, thoughts on this, please? From Yixian Formation. Sinovenator claw + digit and a partial digit. The claw is 1.7cm. Does the claw resemble Troodontid, or would it be more of a raptor? Also--does the digits look like they do go with the claw rather than a random claw stuck on digit bones? I hope to have better pics soon. Thanks

Hello, I have been offered a Chinese pterosaur tooth--from Yixian Formation, Liaoning, China. There are a lot of toothed pterosaurs from there, so I guess narrowing down an actual species will be difficult. But I wish to make sure that it looks pterosaur rather than being something else. Unfortunately the matrix was split and reglued, so it has a repair down the middle. It is 2cm long. Seller is in Taiwan, so export of the fossil is ok.

Hi, I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on this small tooth. It is 4mm, from Liaoning, Yixian Formation, China. I am wondering if it is a bird tooth. Given the vast amount of birds found there, I think a more specific ID is unlikely. It doesnt seem to fit any of the pterosaurs, but there could be a type I am overlooking. It is attached to matrix, so I can't get a photo of the base, but I did what I could. Thanks for the help

From the Yixian Formation. Does it look Tyrannosaur or raptor? There are two Tyrannosaurs from there I see--Dilong and YuTyrannus, so if Tyrannosaur, I can't see how the species can be determined? If Tyrannosaur, would undetermined Tyrannosaur be more accurate? And with its small size, is it likely Dilong instead? Thanks

Hello Am I right that these are bird teeth? Yixian, China, Jehol Biota. Dawangzhangzi Bed. I have looked at pictures of Hell Creek bird teeth and they have a similar, triangular shape and two points at the bottom, which makes me think bird. Though, at almost 1cm it seems large for a bird tooth. From what I can see, Yixian birds are much smaller. And this tooth is even larger than Avisaurus. If not a bird, could it be a fish? Though, again nothing described seems to fit.

One crazy little dinosaur
Bone guy posted a topic in Is It Real? How to Recognize Fossil Fabrications
This guy just popped up on an auction site. It looks very real, and very cool. It's an articulated Sinovenator from the Yixian formation. I just thought I would share it here because it looks great, but can the dino experts spot any restoration?- 16 replies

Hello all I received this insect in a trade with another forum member a couple of months ago. All other insects I could ID, but I can't find this one. It is from the Yixian Fm. of Liaoning, China. This formation is early Cretaceous. I finally got a new camera. The pictures are not perfect but I hope they do the job. Insect is a little over 1 cm. Greetings

I'm very confused by the Yixian formation, it seems that I can never get a straight answer as to the age of the formation. 99.99999% of sellers who sell Yixian formation fossils claim the age is early Cretaceous, but some published papers say other wise. Example: recently I purchased a Protosephurus liui which is from the Yixian. The seller claimed the age of the fish is early Cretaceous. However, a paper I read about Protosephurus liui pointed toward the fish being late Jurassic. Maybe the Yixian just crosses over both the late Jurassic and early Cretaceous....and both time periods are applicable?

Psittacosaurus Ilium
The Speeding Carno posted a topic in Is It Real? How to Recognize Fossil Fabrications
I was browsing through our favorite auction site when I found this for sale. Seller provided no other information about the fossil. The seller is from the US and has a good feedback percentage. Is it real, I have heard stories of psittacosaurus fossils just being sculpted bone mash...- 8 replies
