Here are some puffer fish mouth plates me and my wife found today on Myrtle Beach.

Porcupinefish, to be exact. ;)

 

I love these things. Managed to find a few dead ones in Hawaii and the OBX and kept their jaws as modern examples.  They appear to be exactly the same

To be *even more* exact, these are burrfish - Chilomycterus - which are diodontids and therefore the same family as porcupine fish (Diodon spp.).
