GMG123
Hi found this flint fossil on hayling island beach, very unusual shape looks like a fish or something, to be honest i haven't got a clue. I've already looked online and books but no answer. All i got is that it is from the cretaceous period Image is in the download link (sorry if the quality is not great) Edited March 27, 2011 by GMG123
Kosmoceras
Hi! Welcome to TFF from St. Albans! I think I know what your rock is. Just a rock sadly. I have one similar which I found not long ago. But if we get a sharper picture, we might be able to see what this really is. Good luck! Thomas.

BobWill
The markings on the newer image look very echinoid-like. Edited March 26, 2011 by BobWill

BobWill
just adding more unsual images to identify it further, the new image is from the other side Wow! the other side is very un-urchin looking. Thomas could the first side just be a piece broken off of an echinoid and the rest just oddly eroded matrix or does the back look familiar to you? GMG123
ok thx bobwill, it would be cool, if it was more than a sea urchin another thing bobwill, if your profile picture is a sabertooth skull, i've seen a real sabertooth skull on sale in a shop for 1,000,000 euros, they are pretty cool Edited March 27, 2011 by GMG123

It's a plaster cast a friend gave me . He borrowed a skull and made a mold and several casts before the mold became unusable. It was pretty rough when I got it and I decided to paint even the teeth (which are usually more cream colored) the color of most material from La Brea. GMG123
still pretty good, i didn't get to touch the sabertooth skull in the shop because the grumpy man kicked me out of the shop
GMG123
So the final conclusive answer that it is a echinoid?
BobWill
Is what an echinoid? Oh, yeah, I think we're in agreement on that but we never heard an opinion on the oddness on the other side of the rock. It might be a case where you would have to see it in person to tell.
