Devonian Fish Micros From The Columbus Limestone From Columbus, Ohio

I want to thank Herb for sending me some Devonian matrix residue from the Columbus Limestone from Columbus, Ohio. The matrix was already processed and ready to look through. There was a very high fossil density with very little matrix left and very little other debris. I found a very large number of fish fossils. There were hundreds of fish denticles/scales and a good number of fish teeth. I’m posting the nicer and more unusual micros which I found. These micros were very small specimens ranging in size from .4mm to 2mm. If you place your cursor on a JPEG image you will see the file name which will have the specimen size. I have only identified the specimens as fish teeth or fish denticles/scales. If you can identify the specimens further please do so. Each matrix that I search makes me more of an avid micro tooth collector. If anyone has or can collect good matrix with shark, ray, and fish micros please send me a PM.

Below are some of the fish teeth which I found:

I always enjoy seeing your latest micros, Marco. Pretty neat to get to search material that is so much older than what we're used to here on the east coast.

Interesting specimens!

What sort of processing was required on this limestone matrix?

Great stuff. These are from screening only or was acid used to break down the matrix?

Usually I receive raw matrix and do the processing (break down) myself. However, Herb processed the matrix and sent the residue to me. So I don't know exactly what specific processing took place. Typically limestone is processed (broken down) using acetic acid. Hopefully Herb will reply to this post with his processing steps for the Columbus limestone matrix.

does a good correlation of the units. Unfortunately the link for a PDF copy no longer functions and I don't know how to produce a copy on the FF since I have no homepage or webpage.

Hi,

...I don't know how to produce a copy on the FF since I have no homepage or webpage.

Under your answer window with "more reply options", you have "attach files", clic on "parcourir", and search your PDF on your computer. Don't forget to clic on " attach this file" ;)

In New York we have amazingly much the same Middle Devonian lag formation Fish Bone bed in the Union Springs formation. Check out this website on the unit. http://bingweb.binghamton.edu/~kwilson/Devonian/DevSites/bonebed/bonebed.htm

Thank you for the reference and website link. They are very helpful.

Thanks Coco,

Unfortunately the PDF was 5.28 meg; that's 3.28 meg bigger than the 2 meg limit.

Hi,

Perhpas you can propose that interested people give you their email adress by MP, the size of your file could allow that they receive it without problem in this way ;)

I tried finding the publication through a Google search and other links on the web but wasn't successful. I am definitely interested in getting a copy somehow.

The matrix came to me as is,it was prepared by acid bath.
