SailingAlongToo
Here are a few photos of an Alopias grandis (a little over 1 1/4 inches), I found yesterday morning on the Potomac River, VA side. It was my very first find of the day, after I stepped on it, and it is the first one I've ever found in 10 years of collecting/hunting. This one has serrations down both sides, though they are a little worn, which makes it even more special. It was a gorgeous weekend hunting and collecting along the Pamunkey on Saturday and Potomac on Sunday, despite the huge thunder storm at noon on Saturday that dumped 2 inches of rain in 45 minutes which equaled 50 gallons of water in each of the 2 boats. Fortunately for me, my wife enjoys fossil hunting too and we got to spend the weekend fossiling with TFF's own "Joyce." She is absolutely hilarious and a hoot to hunt with along with being extremely knowledgeable about marine fossils. SailingAlongToo
Very nice find!! Congratulations! Tony Thanks Tony. I stepped off the boat the moment it hit the beach and right on top of the tooth. Just before my foot hit the sand, I looked down and recognized what I immediately thought was a nice little meg. Glad I didn't ruin or break it. I showed it to a couple of other extremely knowledgeable folks who were with us and they quickly set me straight on the correct genus and species. Daleksec
Better then a crab carapace, two big fish verts, and a fish jaw. They would never match the rarity of your find. Congrats Trevor

Congrats Trevor Daleksec, You know I would have given it to you but its the first and only 1 of these I've ever found. At least we got to spend the day together on the beach. :-) Jack Don't know much about history Don't know much biology Don't know much about science books......... I've got another tooth I've emailed to Marco Sr. I hope it turns out to be one of these also. If it is, I will post it too. It's from the same place as this one. Looking forward to seeing you and doing some hunting together in 2 weeks. Do what you can to make that river go down. :-) Don't know much about history Don't know much biology Don't know much about science books......... MikeR
Nice find Jack It's one of the few shark teeth besides certain micros that I don't have. That and the ever elusive 6 inch meg. SailingAlongToo
Thanks guys. We are pretty stoked, especially since we can add a new genus and species to our collection, not to mention it's really a cool looking tooth. (Or, as my wife said, "its so cute!")
