Ptychodus04
I was thinking this is a Knightia but now I’m not so sure. The body shape seems wrong and it does not appear to be compressed. @Fossildude19 @RJB Regards, Kris Global Paleo Services, LLC https://globalpaleoservices.com http://instagram.com/globalpaleoservices http://instagram.com/kris.howe

The lack of pectoral fins 1/3 of the way up the body, lack of a long anal fin, and lack of thicker support bones in the post cranial hump tells me it isn't a Diplomystus. The fact that this is also about 5 inches in length puts it at a Knightia size range, and rules out Gosiuteichthys and Erismatopterus. Lack of a second dorsal rules out Mioplosus. 4 Tim - VETERAN SHALE SPLITTER VFOTM --- APRIL - 2015 IPFOTM -- May - 2024 _________________________________________________________________________________ "In every walk with nature one receives far more than he seeks." Rockwood
Maybe there was a nice looking lady fish nearby. It looks as if he was sucking in his gut.

Thanks for the confirmation Tim. I needed a gut check before I stuck this in the “big box o Knightias” I’m putting together for a client. 6 hours ago, Rockwood said: Maybe there was a nice looking lady fish nearby. I have a small 2.5 incher that is quite similar looking. 1 Tim - VETERAN SHALE SPLITTER VFOTM --- APRIL - 2015 IPFOTM -- May - 2024 _________________________________________________________________________________ "In every walk with nature one receives far more than he seeks."
