Cianfaglione
Here are a few recent plant finds from the Early Jurassic East Berlin Formation in Hartford County, Connecticut. Possible plant ID's include Brachyphyllum/Pagiophyllum, Loperia simplex, possible leaf?? (circled red), Equisetum, Cheirolepidaceae. Comments, identifications, or corrections are greatly appreciated.
Fossildude19
Oooh! More Early Jurassic goodness! 1 - Looks like a branch or basal branch/root to a Brachyphyllum. - The v-shape at the top of the item reminds me of the base of a Brachyphyllum frond. 2 - Looks like a Brachyphyllum frond. 3 - is definitely a pollen cone from a Cheirolepidaceae. Conifer - Cone family Classostrobus. 4 - Appears to be a node section from Equisitites sp. 5 - Brachyphyllum frond tip, perhaps with a cone from Hirmeriella meunsteri - I would send pics of this and the other cone to Brian Axsmith. 6 - Possible Otozamites pinnule. 7 - Brachyphyllum twig 8 - Unidentified rachis from a plant, maybe conifer? 9 - No clue on that one - interesting though - keep it in the IHNI pile. (I Have No Idea) All excellent finds, Paul! Congratulations. 2 1 Tim - VETERAN SHALE SPLITTER VFOTM --- APRIL - 2015 __________________________________________________ "In every walk with nature one receives far more than he seeks." Cianfaglione
Thank you Tim for taking the time to look over and identify my posted fossils! Since I tag, date, and save every piece of organic material that I find, your help with trying to figure out some of these plant fragments is greatly appreciated. At some point, I plan on donating all my fossils to a local institution. Thanks again, Paul
