Fossil tooth from north Island, taranaki, New Zealand

Welcome to thefossilforum!
I'm pretty sure that is a sawshark rostral tooth from Ikamauius ensifer. I just found a concretion with a whole bunch of them in it. Really cool find! I found mine on the South Island.

I think it's Ikamauius ensifer too.  If it had those fine barbs just on along one cutting edge, I would say it's Pliotrema.  If it didn't barbs at all, I would say it's Pristiophorus.  Ikamauius has barbs along both cutting edges.

 

As far as I know, Pliotrema is still known as a fossil only from South Africa though it lives today from farther up off the eastern coast of Africa and off Madagascar.  Ikamauius is known only from fossil sites in New Zealand - now extinct apparently.  I've always wondered if someone might find one of these alive because it's more recent occurrence has been reported as "Lower Pleistocene."
