Hello,

I bought a fossil advertised as a Carcharodontosaurus vertebra fossil.

Do you think it is Carcharodontosaurid?

I'm translating so the sentences may be strange. Thank you

It looks like part of a sacrum. I assume it's from Morocco, but do you have location info? Can you also post more pictures of it?

My guess is it beloged to some type of theropod, but I couldn't narrow it down anymore than that.

Like the others have said, this is part of a sacrum. Several sarcral vertebrae that fuse together to form the base of the pelvis. And I agree that it's likely theropod. And judging by the colour, this is likely from the Kem Kem beds in Morocco. But it's always better to have a more specific location.

It can't be assigned to any specific species. But we can probably assign it to a family.
I don't think it's likely to be carcharodontosaurid. They tend to have very high vertebrae. These seem to be longer and more slender.
They seem to fit more with spinosaurid.

Here's an example of the carcharodontosaurid, Acrocanthosaurus. It doesn't seem to fit.

And here's an example of Spinosaurus. While not exactly the same, it seems to be a better match.

I totally agree with the Spinosaurus opinion.

  • Fossildude19 changed the title to Carcharodontsaurus vertebral

thank you

It is believed to have been severely damaged during excavation.

There are traces of forcible removal in some places.
