New Members cindy mabary Posted April 26, 2023 New Members Share Posted April 26, 2023 I was given this microfossil, which has no provenance whatsoever. Any suggestions would be most helpful.
Shellseeker
Welcome to TFF, a good place for fossil questions.... Yours reminds me of shell material... Calcium carbonate.. What do you think it is made of ? The small hole in the center is usually a periproct for echinoids like sea urchins..... I am not an expert... on micro sea creatures... but other may be. @Coco @MikeR The White Queen ".... in her youth she could believe "six impossible things before breakfast"

Coco
Hi, I’m not sure it’s a sea urchin. The smallest ones I know are the Echinocyamus that are between 5 and 8 mm. It’s not that genus, but I don’t see anything that reminds a sea urchin apart from its shape and the hole. On the first picture it looks like there is a almost horizontal bulge that goes through the center, it is not characteristic of a regular sea urchin. I don’t see any ambulacra or interambulacra plate. Sorry, I can’t comment any further.
