Beltzville State Park - Middle Devonian (Mahantango Formation)

Masonk

Recommended Posts

Family and I took a trip to Beltzville State Park earlier this week. We stayed around the lake, looking along the shoreline and wading through water. Found some pretty cool Middle Devonian fossils. My wife lucked out with two Trilobite pieces, one of which is a really nice head imprint.

I'm still working on identification, so please bare with me. Any help of course is appreciated.

Coin is 22mm

The lappets suggest an asteropygine, such as Greenops. Also, there is no longer a Phacops rana as the genus was reassigned to Eldredgeops for all North American trilobites that were formerly under the Phacops genus.

Thank you for that information! I'm realizing a lot of the online resources I'm using are a bit outdated. Add to that me being a complete novice, and its a recipe for misinformation.

Looks like a nice haul! I agree the pygidium is a Greenops boothi not Phacops rana.

Few creatures in here. Curious about the item in the bottom right panel. Brachiopod? There is an impression of the ridges underneath. Or is this the stem of the coral

The forum was giving me problems yesterday uploading photos. At one point I had a duplicate post that suddenly disappeared.

Photos are visible for me on desktop, but not mobile. Screenshots below. Gong to try to edit the first post, delete then add back the photos.

If you are referring to the duplicate topic (not post), you had changed the duplicate topic title to "delete" and I obliged. :)

Correct on topic, not post. You're pretty fast. I was deleting the photos, etc., and it suddenly the topic was gone. I thought my computer was lagging, making it seem like a duplicate was made.

I went back to edit the 1st post to reflect the correct trilobite species and everything went haywire after that. Weird. Thanks for the help!

Lol! I managed a military collector forum for several years. It's definitely a thankless job, sometimes. Likewise on #2!
