Hi everyone,

Together with my daughter we have found a kind of fossils in Halkidiki, Northen Greece. It was found after the storm in the lowest layer of 10 meters beach mountain consisting from clay. What we already dug up It seems to be a two bones and part of scull. Any ideas what it could be?

Welcome to TFF from Austria!

Yes, looks like bone, pelvic?? I don´t know.

Do you know how old the strata the bone sits in are? "Looks" rather young. And I would be very careful with excavation. Bone could crumble upon exposure to air / drying.

There are also special regulations in Greece concerning fossils?

Please wait for advice from the vertebrate specialists here on TFF!

Hello,

The sediments, with which I am quite familiar, shall be of Upper Miocene age, similar to the Pikermic fauna.

The pictured bone must be of some large mamal, probably pelvic as Franz said above.

These Miocene fossils are really brittle and start falling apart if you do not stabilize them, not to mention extracting them safely.

Similar fauna can be seen at the museum of Thermopigi (Serres), which you can contact to report this location +30 698 215 8388

Alternatively, contact Aristoteles Uni', just don't let this thing unattended throughout winter, otherwise in Spring it will be dust.

If you do not manage to find the appropriate person to take care of this, PM me to send you some more contacts.
