Shaun-DFW Fossils

I went to an “easy walking” spot to enact my own play called The Rockcracker while my daughter went to see The Nutcracker. This Goodland formation spot is a guaranteed echinoid grab every time. I have a bunch of flawless hemiaster whitei echinoids and a small number of heterasters, plus perhaps the smallest ammonite I have and a few nice gastropods.

Sure! Here are a few of them. I love the feel of the intact outer shell with all of the little bumps. One of these might have a couple of spines laying across the top?

That Goodland site must be pretty packed with fossils. You have a lot of wonderful specimens there. I especially love the well-preserved echinoids and the bivalves. Congratulations and thanks for sharing.

I can't believe how many of those you find, really nice ones too!   Here's some spines however i don't know if they belong to ones like yours.

Very cool, those look like they belong to a much larger urchin. I’d love to find something like that. Those Moroccan urchins seem really popular right now, the ones with the interesting shapes..I sound ignorant about them because I am (I know yours are local, not from Morocco) 🤪

Generally these sea urchins have rather "silks" instead of quills as shown. The "bristles" look more like hairs, as on the skin of a pig, in France we use the same word.

@Lone Hunter's thorns certainly belong to a regular sea urchin.

One more to add to the Goodland list, a pholadomya species clam, I love the intricate pattern visible. This is the only one of this kind I have.
it’s raining enough that a river of drainage water is running down my street in Johnson County, I can already hear the fossils calling my name when it stops…🤪🤣

Thank you! The quality of the echinoids at that spot is quite good. Funny that it’s so close to a well trafficked area. It pays to look at the small details!
