Hi this is my first ever post so apologies for the atrocity that is my attempt at using tags lol, I found this guy on the banks of the St. John’s River FL by mill cove, i know its a jawbone, but to what i have no idea, could be mammal or marine, because there are lots of Osprey Bald Eagles and other birds of prey in the area. Any help is much appreciated! I also think it’s some sort of predator due to the shape of the teeth.

Oh wow really? I wouldn’t have thought I’d find a Barracuda Jaw this far north, especially during the winter months! Thank you!

I was thinking maybe a kingfish though, since it’s a really popular species for sport fishermen in the area and stuff?

I agree. Looks like the maxilla from a king mackerel. Image from here- https://www.facebook.com/amealformaggots/photos/pcb.980957962307536/980957942307538/?type=3&theater

Thank you all for your very helpful replies, I’m leaning towards this jawbone being that of a king mackerel rather than a barracuda. I appreciate each and every response, as yall have taken the time out of your days to help me find the answer to my question. Thanks again!

I lean towards mackerel due to the uniformity of the tooth size and regularity of tooth spacing
