C2fossils
Well, I am stumped with this vertebrae that I found on the Kaw river in Kansas. Thank you for your help!
Balance
The shape and size keep making my brain trigger wild hog (sus scrufa). They have that shape centrum and profile but I can’t find exactly your specimen. Hummmm… Edited April 2 by Balance Doubts. Full of doubts. 😂
C2fossils
It could be peccary but I can't seem to find a solid match with that either......
C2fossils
I believe I have solved it, it is a Ancient Peccary L3 Vert. Thank you for your help in steering me in the right direction for id @Balance!
garyc
Nice find! Can you share your reference that led you to the id? I have never found many references for peccary bones
CDiggs
L3 With a dens process? I'm pretty sure this is an axis vert...
jpc
This definitely a cervical vert. See the holes in the edges best seen in your second photo? That only happens in mammal cervicals. And the protuberance (sticky out thing) seen in front of your ring finger in the last photo tell me that CDiggs is right.... axis... second cervical. What animal? I don't know
C2fossils
Yep, You're right @jpc & @CDiggs it is a C2 Neck/Axis Vert. this is a wild boar of front view, I did find a photo of a peccary that looked exactly the same but the web won't bring it up again and here is a skeleton of a peccary Edited April 6 by C2fossils Mistakes in writing 2
