New Members ChrisB1 Posted April 2 New Members Share Posted April 2 Hi all. First time poster. My wife believes this may be a tooth that we picked up whilst hunting on the beach in Lyme Regis today. It is approx 7cm long. If you are kind enough to give your opinions it would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks.
Fossildude19
Not seeing any enamel, which would indicate tooth. I suppose it could be extremely well worn, but, I think this is more likely to be a suggestively shaped rock. Ludwigia
Me neither. This is a piece of shale. Greetings from the Lake of Constance. Roger http://www.steinkern.de/

ClearLake
I agree it is not a tooth, but if you zoom in on picture 2 or the next couple, I could see it being a piece of bone. Not being familiar with the area, is that out of the question?
val horn
I was also thinking bone is a possibility i wonder does it fizz if exposed to acid that should separate out bone from limestone
Ludwigia
I'm inclined to stick to my assessment as shale. Bone is available along this stretch of coast, but this doesn't have the color or texture I'm used to seeing. But who knows? Acid probably won't help here since this looks to be mudstone.
