Micropaleontologist, ask me anything!

Hi everyone! It has been a long time since I have posted on this website, but I figured there might be some interest in the work of a professional micropaleontologist. To give you an idea of the work I do, below is a link to my most recent publication (I'm the lead author):

https://pubs.geoscienceworld.org/gsa/geology/article/52/4/251/633456/A-late-refugium-for-Classopollis-in-the-Paleocene

My main job is micropaleontological analysis of drill cuttings in the oil industry, I do research on the side. Ask me anything!

ooohhhh.. I may be asking you lots of questions! I love micro matrix fossil hunting and have found quite a few things that I have no idea what they are! Maybe you can help me out with some of them! I have found quite a few forams but have not been able to ID many of them. Is that something you might be able to help with? These would be mostly Texas Cretaceous finds.

Cool thread! What is the highest magnification you've ever used identify a fossil and what was the fossil?

How much wood can a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood?

Sorry for that..  you did say ‘ask me anything’. :)

The OP might just be a tad busy at the moment.

I'm sure they'll be back to answer questions before long. :)

Life gets in the way sometimes. I know it does for me.

The OP said that they work in the oil industry. Maybe the OP is on some remote offshore oil platform. Suddenly called out there to look at fresh core samples with no internet or cell phone coverage. Maybe the oil company drilled too deep and have found something new, unexpected, exciting. Maybe they need the expert opinion of a scientist on what they have found. A new mineral? Species of fossil? Maybe the micros are still alive (to everyone’s surprise!)?! Maybe… Maybe….Maybe I’ve just seen too many action/suspense movies start out that way… ;) :heartylaugh:

I’m sure @verydeadthings will be back around as soon as they can to tell us all about their hair raising and spine tingling adventure! :D

Maybe we should turn this into a contest and see who can come up with the wildest and craziest story of what happened to the OP.:zzzzscratchchin:

Have you done any research on fossilized microbial mats or stromatolites?
