Hey Folks,

Back in August I organized a dig to excavate a Pliocene baleen whale skull from the Purisima Formation. I finally got around to putting together some blog posts about it, and here they are. Part 3 has the poor man's "time lapse" animation of the dig.

Part 1

Part 2

Part 3 (with animation of the excavation)

I had forgotten how all that is done.. It sure takes a lot

of effort and clever way to get it down.. I can't wait to

hear what it is for sure when it gets free of the matrix

and studied.. I liked the time lapse too..

Welcome to the forum!

Hah, nope, I should update my personal information. I graduated with my M.S. back in May. I did this excavation here on the Central California coastline.

Very cool to see a professional excavation. Thanks for sharing!

Hey JP - I can't remember if I told you that or not. Thanks! Additionally (I mentioned this in my PM) in October I got accepted into the Ph.D. program at the University of Otago in New Zealand to work on Oligocene baleen whales with Ewan Fordyce.
