Sizev_McJol
Greetings, all! I’m new here, but very appreciative already for this forum. I’m an amateur fossil hunter, collector and paleoartist, and I recently decided to organize and catalogue all of my fossils, which will take a very, very long time. Hence I’ll likely be posting quite a bit in this section... so here’s my first conundrum: It’s from Mazon Creek, Illinois. It looks like a shrimp, as I have a few to compare it with, but certain features of the rock give the impression of wings, so I start to see a dragonfly-esque shape. Any thoughts? Thanks! Rockwood
Shrimp. Notice the cavity under a convex carapace. I can't see a wing doing that.

Peat Burns
I agree with shrimp. Possibly a molt of Belotelson? @Nimravis
Nimravis
I also agree with shrimp, and it looks like the tail tail section was folded over on itself.
Miocene_Mason
Welcome to the forum from Maryland! Many a time has it been when I ask myself, “shrimp or dragonfly?” However, this is usually at a very shifty sushi restaurant.... Nice fossil Happy hunting, Mason
