fossils4fun
Hi, I have been finding these round stones and thought that they were small concretions. Then I found one that was more oval in shape, just wanted to get a second opinion. The first picture is of the round one and the second one is the one that really seems out of place. Is this shape normal for concretions, I have seen them on the internet shaped like peanuts. I really don't know a lot about it, just what I have googled in the past few days, any info would be greatly appreciated and fun, thanks so much. Darktooth
Yes this is a concretion / nodule. Some of these may have fossils inside, but not all of them do. To find out you can try to bust them open with a hammer or try the freeze/ thaw method until they crack open. 1 I like Trilo-butts and I cannot lie. ynot
Concretions can take many shapes, some very odd. Round and oval concretions are very common as are flat and tube shaped. Darwin said: " Man sprang from monkeys." Will Rogers said: " Some of them didn't spring far enough." My Fossil collection - My Mineral collection My favorite thread on TFF.
