Tidgy's Dad
Can't see enough sides and angles to be certain, but looks more agate-like, in my opinion. 1 Life's Good! Tortoise Friend.

The hard petrified woods composed of quartz, chalcedony and opal ct usually take a few million to tens of millions of years to form. Similar wood from the Miocene is common. Wood can mostly petrify in a few years or decades in hot springs. Wood buried in volcanic sediments can be opalized and pretty solid in a few thousand years. See this reference for a good overview of the formation of petrified wood. Note especially pages 16 and 17. “Petrified Wood: The Silicification of Wood by Permineralization” Mike Viney http://petrifiedwoodmuseum.org/PDF/Permineralization.pdf 2 My goal is to leave no stone or fossil unturned.
